anyone else buy a computer within the last few months (before vista was released) and registered for your free vista upgrade?
i checked http://www.dellvistaupgrade.com and the order status says its been shipped (its been saying this for about 2 weeks now). but the FAQ says that once it ships they will email me and give me a tracking number
my email and shipping address are correct on the form, but i've received no email and no vista in the mail
anyone else got this issue? 3/27/2007 9:56:06 PM |

Dell's probably waiting until vista will actually work with their hardware and not fuck everything up. At this point, dell is protecting you. 3/27/2007 10:27:47 PM |

Call their support line. Pain in the butt, but they should be able to tell you whats up. Can be simple things from time-to-time.

I missed the cutoff for the vista upgrade by a few days. I forget the actual dates but it was something like if you purchased a comp after Oct 16 you'll get vista and I bought mine on the 13th 3/28/2007 6:45:11 AM |

it has even been suggestion by it professionals that vista just may be the os to skip and or at least wait until a huge service pack comes before you even try to install, especially if you are not so technical. 3/28/2007 7:55:11 AM |

stay away from vista if you like playing games or running most entertainment driven software... its a pita to get working if you can at all. i tried with a free full version of vista business and have since gone back to xp till a service pack comes out to fix all of that retardedness. 3/28/2007 9:41:11 AM |

I've been running Vista from day one, no problem with any games or apps yet.3/28/2007 12:23:11 PM |

i have Vista Home Premium on my 2yo Dell laptop and it runs actually faster now than it did with XP. applications start up immediately in Vista whereas in XP, there was usually a delay. also, when coming out of standby it comes out immediately as well where with XP it took a second or two. 3/28/2007 1:26:19 PM |

Please keep this thread on topic. There are tons of bitch, whine, and moan (or praise in rare instances) Vista threads out there already. kk, thnx. 3/28/2007 7:49:08 PM |

Yeah, I've never had any problems with drivers or running anything on Dell machines. The only reason I prefer to stay away is because the thing idles (no open programs other than the OS) at over half a gig of memory. I've got my XP installation idling at just under 90MB of memory.3/29/2007 7:01:52 AM |

for the 10000000th fucking time
the extra memory is used by superfetch.
Its preloads commonly used programs into memory so they launch faster. If another application needs the ram, then its given up.
If its idling then it doesn't fucking matter if it uses a gig of ram for prefetch because you aren't doing shit with it anyways. End result is either no performance gain or a large performance gain. Theres no downside. 3/29/2007 7:51:35 AM |

^^Thanks for the info. Helped me find this:
Quote : | "To disable Superfetching, click Start - Run and type “services.msc” without the quotes and press Enter. Then scroll down to Superfetching, double click Superfetching and set it from Automatic to Disabled." |
From my system I'm guessing they still have some kinks to work out.3/29/2007 8:21:14 AM |
