It's a big deal. This is the largest free trade agreement the United States has engaged in since NAFTA. The US and the ROK already do about $75 billion in trade annually. Certainly the largest bilateral agreement to date for the United States.

I'm curious to see the final details given that they barely managed to squeeze this deal in given the contentiousness over several key items.

According to Bloomberg, the U.S. International Trade Commission states that with the FTA, US exports to South Korea are expected to rise by 19.5 billion USD. S. Korean exports to the United States are expected to rise 10 billion USD. I believe this is to help address the current trade deficit of 9.5 billion USD.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/12/AR2007061201691.html

I read a WaPo article that criticized Hillary Clinton on her decision to vote against the free trade agreement with S. Korea. I also read the near hysterical comments made by WaPo readers railing against a free trade agreement with S. Korea (though honestly, more sound like general free trade rants rather than anger venting specifically against this particular deal).

Maybe I'm missing something here, but is there any reason why this particular free trade agreement with South Korea would be detrimental to the United States? This isn't like free trade with Mexico where free trade would allow US corporations to outsource and undercut American labor. This is more like free trade with Canada or Western Europe where the economies are more on par with American labor standards and standard of living. I'm curious as to why this is considered by some to be such a bad deal for "the American people".
