Continuation of message_topic.aspx?topic=452091.

I've been practicing almost every day for the past month using this book:

.

So far it has taught me how to read sheet music somewhat, and I've learned fingering techniques. It's going slowly, and I am discouraged that I haven't learned anything specifically "flamenco" yet (the book focuses purely on classical styles.

I've found a teacher finally who will teach me classical guitar, but unfortunately his lessons are $34 per half hour, which is a little steep for me especially with my financial situation at the moment.

I've also considered signing up for http://www.flamenco-lessons.com. The few videos shown make it seem like an okay deal.

My goal is to play like this:

Yeah, that's the "fun" part. It's such a daunting task, but when I finally get a rasgueado that sounds perfect it's worth it.

i figured out how stupid i was last night after i left the theater.

just put your first finger on the first fret on the g string. played the highest four strings.

that's it

d (open) - g# (1st finger) - b (open) - high e (open)

God, I'm in the same boat with you.

I'm working through this:

Yes, the guy looks fruity and queer, but the book is pretty good.

Plus I'm working on all these Segovia scale sheets.... fookin retarded hard.

My thoughts exactly when I first saw that book, but it really is a good book. I'll second a recommendation for it.

how so?

i thought the story about how he recovered from a devastating car accident with a drunk driver is pretty inspiring. he apparently recovered from significant nerve damage and vision damage, to refocus his career.

It's certainly impressive that Esteban recovered from his accident to play guitar again.

It's certainly not impressive that he's a mediocre guitar player who peddles his crappy guitars and CDs of white bread elevator music on QVC, all while constantly invoking the name of Segovia.

hmm. ive never really heard any of his own music.

but i just recently read about the controversy regarding his "tutelage" under Segovia.

yeah, it's looking a little sketch. too bad. i thought he seemed pretty cool at first glance

there is one famous guitarist that was in a music video, during the filming the dancers (spanish style) wanted his autograph rather than the singers much to the singers chagrin

I'm learning how to play "Cancion del Mariachi." It's the song played in the introductory scene of Desperado. It's fun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc5GU6Jpbyg

This is that song

I've been looking at other people playing it and they're all playing high up bar chords like on the 8th fret... so I dunno. The tabs that I found are way up on the 2nd fret :/

So Cif82 is bringing his guitar to work today. He's going to play the rhythm to "Cancion del Mariachi" and I'll play the lead. Should be... interesting.

I dunno... the ones I've found have all these notations for where you're supposed to hit the whammy bar and such.

Plus, I haven't found anywhere that lists the solo as well.

damn you wolfweb for making me not want to click on any links in this thread to keep from getting rolled.

btw, i think that sounds awesome. but i suppose classical is a place to start. once you get the basics down, then you can move on.
