Anyone care about this?

They take the top 10 men's and 10 women's sports and give points based on final rankings.
We're terrible. It didn't help that we got no points in football or men's basketball.
We did get points for M&W CC, W BB, M&W Track, and Wrestling. We should get points for baseball, softball, and M&W tennis (they are both currently ranked).
I'd like to see State excel in more sports. Football and men's basketball are on the way up. I think overall, our sports programs should be improving due to the $ we've poured into facilities (football, tennis, softball, track, soccer). 4/6/2007 5:20:27 PM |

The rankings include FENCING.
This is pretty much a key indicator that I shouldn't give a damn. 4/6/2007 7:28:19 PM |

uhh, they win it every year, because like 60% percent of their student body is athletes.
[Edited on April 6, 2007 at 7:51 PM. Reason : if they win this year, which it looks like they will, it will make 13 in a row] 4/6/2007 7:51:00 PM |

They take your top 10 M and top 10 W sports. Stanford has like 20 M and W sports. We only have 10 each. Their athletic budget must be huge.
UNC won it in 1994 I think. They compete b/c of women's soccer.
BB and football are obviously the top priority. But I also like the fact that we're good in baseball, cross country, softball, etc. I pull for all pack sports. 4/8/2007 4:13:03 PM |

If Florida offered more sports, they would own this. Even with only 8 mens' sports, they're in the top 5 nearly every year. 4/8/2007 7:24:39 PM |

Tennis team finished 20-8 (5-6 ACC) and ranked 26th nationally. One of the best years ever for the tennis team. ACC tournament starts today. Good article in the n&o.

Some more juicy nuggets from other sports:
No. 42 Women's tennis team beat no. 18 Duke on Sat. The highest ranked opponent ever beaten by State and the 1st victory ever against Duke.
Softball pitcher Abbie Sims pitched her 2nd straight no-no. It was a perfect game against Campbell.

I thought I'd bump this thread. Final Winter rankings were released today. We're ranked 37th:

Several of our spring sports are doing well in addition to baseball. Wouldn't be surprised to see us move up further in the final standings.
Here are the past 4 years and the rankings:
2009-2010: Fall - 85; Winter - 88; Final - 89 (last year under Fowler) 2010-2011: Fall - 52; Winter - 71; Final - 67 (Yow's first year) 2011-2012: Fall - 38; Winter - 41; Final - 37 2012-2013: Fall - 41; Winter - 37; 4/25/2013 4:09:55 PM |

Somewhat hitting a ceiling for us (or floor depending on how you want to look at it). Overall though Yow is light years better than Fowler and assuming Doeren works out and we get a good womens bball coach, we could make that next jump. 4/25/2013 4:22:27 PM |
