every time I see a CLK DTM, I have to tell myself its like a poor-man's SLR, but what I'm really thinking is that it's nearly the 'oughties looks-equivalent of those benz convertibles from the early nineties with the testarossa fenders. (I think Shaq had one). The changes are just SOOO incongruous, and it's the least lithe-looking car with that much power at that much money ever. You gotta admit that it's one of those cars that you make a lot of excuses for. If MB offered a fiberglass version of that body for a CLK 350, you'd laugh your ass off and call it the ugliest thing ever... 4/11/2007 2:48:12 PM |

2008 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG
6.2 litre V8 457 hp 443 lb-ft
This will kill the new M3 sedan, RS4, and the Lexus IS-F, at least in straight-line performance, leaving them in the dust with its mighty torque, 370 lb-ft of which is available from 2000 RPM.
Expect this baby monster to do 0-60 mph in 4.2 sec!
Also expected to do much better than other AMGs on the track, as it is the first AMG in which the ESP (electronic stability program) can be completely turned off.
3 generations back, the C-Class AMG was the C36 AMG, and now it is the C63 AMG! I bet two generations later they will stuff the 65 AMG motor in there!

Mercedes SL Black Series Spied
Quote : | "A prototype for the Mercedes SL Black Series has been spotted on public roads around the Nürburgring, in preparation for some hot laps later this week. This is the most wicked SL ever conceived, with optimum performance its top priority.
Huge flared fenders are likely created with ultra-light carbon fibre, to reduce weight and to accommodate this car's enormous wheels and tires. The roof on this SL has been converted into a fixed coupe roof, also crafted in carbon fibre to lower the Black Series' center of gravity and further reduce weight. Exactly what engine mods have been employed here are uncertain, but you can be sure it's insanely powerful." |

A Black Series SL should have nothing less than 650hp. Given the power of the SL 65 I wouldn't rule out 700hp. The problem with transmissions though is that Mercedes doesn't produce a manual tranny that can handle that power. Could they outsource? Of course, but its doubtful they would 9/25/2007 1:33:13 PM |

Mercedes only redoes their SL model every 8 years or more, so I'm doubtful they're doing a complete revision. I hope to God they're not considering putting that front on the current model (since nothing else looks different in those spy shots).
However, if they're doing this I blame the gay as shit European Pedestrian law with required hood heights, UGH 11/26/2007 6:17:52 PM |

Spy Shots: Details on the Mercedes-Benz SL65 Black Series
HOLY SHIT
Quote : | "CAR was able to get the exclusive details on the SL65, which is being built in cooperation with HWA, the same folks who develop vehicles for the DTM/German Touring Car Championship.
That means that prodigious power is only the tip of the iceberg. But to be specific, 670 hp and 737 lb.-ft. of torque will be squeezed from the supercharged V8, with torque being limited to 555 lb.-ft. in first and second gears to avoid all the oily bits from being strewn across the tarmac.
The Black Series will be around 550 pounds lighter than its pedestrian counterpart.
To make sure that absolute power doesn't corrupt absolutely, the price of the SL65 Black Series is set around £193,000." |

Mercedes SL 63 65 AMG - In Detail

Utterly gorgeous... but those small side grills (front AND back of front wheel) look better in the current iteration. In fact, they doesn't even look like proper grills now. Looks like there is a cover on the grills. Looks weird.
SL 63 AMG 6.3 litre NA V8 525 hp 465 lb-ft 0-60 mph ~ 4 sec
SL 65 AMG 6.0 litre TT V12 612 hp 738 lb-ft 0-60 mph ~ 3.8 sec
SL 63 AMG
SL 65 AMG
Here is what I mean by the grills being covered... see below for the grills on the current outgoing SL 65 AMG.

SL 65 AMG Black Series will have 670hp and weigh 570lbs LESS than the other SLs.
It will also have a fixed roof and not the retractable hardtop. $225k and a horsepower to weight ratio of 1 hp per 6.1 lbs.
