say a professor has all the test dates listed on their syllabus but nothign about an attendance policy. there si a student who never comes to class but shows up the test only to find it was pushed forward(they missed it) could that student protest and force the profeesor to let them make it up?

as far as i know, if the professor varies from the syllabus in any way, they have to notify the students.

I'd say you the student would be fucked. The professor probably notified the class during class, and would probably be irritated that said student was not attending class.

the prof should have still emailed the students. some regular attending student could have been absent a couple of lectures when the test date was announced. or he/she could've forgot to write it down/ misunderstood the prof/ thought he ment the regular date/ etc.

Some regular attending student would know at least a few people in the class and would've heard about the test switch.

I think it's your own fault for being a lazy bitch...but maybe you could come up with some excuse that you were sick that week

The syllabus is not set in stone. It's simply a guide to give you an idea of what's happening when. Yes, it'd be nice of the teacher to send out an e-mail to alert everyone of changes like tests, but I rarely see that happen. I'm sure they mentioned it as a reminder over several classes, so even if someone missed 'one day' they would have still known about it. Not to be an ass, but it really is your fault for being irresponsible (or lazy) and this is a consequence. I say there is a small chance the teacher wants to go through the trouble of giving a make up based on your obvious lack of care for the class. Maybe they're nice though...

he probably won't go through the trouble of making a make-up exam, but i bet he would allow the final to take up a higher % of your grade to make it up.
