I have an 80g Seagate in an external enclosure. Its a spare left over from a POS machine that had a warranty and best buy put it in, and it had windows installed on it. I dont have the disk that came with the enclosure. What do I need to do to make it more compatible with my current computer? ( im thinking that since it has a whole OS and a bunch of stuff I dont want I need to reformat or something similar) Thanks for your help.

if you can't plug it in to your computer and it automatically add it you have other problems.

that aside, right click on the drive in my computer and click format.

Try Disk Manager in Windows:

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Manager

Open that up after plugging in the external drive. See if the drive shows up on bottom section. If it's there right-click and have your way with it.
