I love and hate those shows.
I wonder how many of those reptiles and amphibians end up dead by the end of the week

do research before you purchase one.

they have specific needs (large housing, diets, and need to be handled regularily and properly or you'll have a little evil creature on your hands)

and you're better off going through a breeder that doesn't take their gliders to large expos like this. The majority of breeders at this show only care about the money. A good breeder wouldn't subject their animals to the stress and would screen adopters.

I'm just going to browse and pick up supplies.
I have enough as it is:
*full grown iguana
*3 bearded dragons
*4 leopard geckos
*Saharan/Nigerian Uromastyx
*2 Senegal Chameleons

plus all the small animals in my classroom (ferrets, chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc)

I might pick up another hairless hamster since my students think they're great.
And if i find a nice female bearded dragon. Maybe a snow or blood...
I have a hypo pastel male and a hypo pastel female from Georgia Bearded Dragons (and a normal Sandfire) and hopefully I'll get a decent clutch from them this year.

I usually hit it up on sunday, but this year i'm spending the weekend at the dart frog show in baltimore. I need to find someone to pick me up some pygmy chameleons though

WARNING: If you are planning on purchasing a fuzzy animals (or a reptile for that matter) other than a feeder mouse/rat, i.e. chinchilla, sugar glider, hamster, etc. PLEASE research and find a knowledgeable breeder instead. The mammals that end up at these shows are pitiable at best. They are always terrified, generally have behavioral issues, and are not hardy species to begin with. Chances are you're paying a little less money, but I can almost guarantee the animal will get sick and you'll pay out the ass in vet care along the way. A lot of the mammals that end up here are "overflows" and not the best specimens. If you go through a breeder you'll get a ton of advice and help, a guaranteed healthy animal, and an animal that has been handled and well cared for and will ultimately make a much better companion.

^yea, it's definitely not only the mammals that are in crap condition. i've seen dead reptiles on dealers' tables before, and even know someone who bought one and took it home (fortunately got back in time to get a refund/replacement).

no matter what you get, know what the fuck you're doing.

i want to pick up some tarantulas or scorpions, but i was very disappointed by the last show. saw a lot of death curls while they were being unpacked, and most couldn't confirm WC/LT captive/CB.

that, and i'll broke till after the wedding.

we're going now.

gonna be on the lookout for some arachnids (tarantulas/scorpions) and bugs (mainly beetles).

i've been very tempted in the last couple years to get a blue tongued skink, but we just don't have space for a big tank right now

arachnids/bugs are so much easier... less space = room for more!

but I might be interested in rehoming my 2 Senegal Chameleons. I bought them a year and half ago (at the expo). they are parasite free and pretty friendly. They don't eagerly come out but if you're gentle - they don't mind coming out for brief periods of time. They're fragile and small (about 5 inches). They need to be kept in a quiet area of the house (less traffic the better). They've been living with dogs and their cage is next to a 6 ft iguana so they have been exposed to a lot. They're fascinating to watch. Change colors from dark green/brown to bright greens. Sometimes they're spotted, sometimes striped, sometimes solid. I think they're both males but they don't seem to mind living with each other.

They come with a mesh cage and all accessories.

I have a cat that like to get up on my lizard cage and look through the top and watch him or just lay by the lamp.

I think that is kinda funny but I still yell at him for doing it.

^^my former bosses ended up getting 3 pairs of darts at the atlanta show at the beginning of the year. they left them in the store for the employees to take care of them. before i quit, they moved me to another store, so needless to say, they killed off the fruit fly culture, stopped ordering pinhead crix, and killed them all off.

oh, and it was sad not to be able to go for once. i just got a good job, though seasonal, and i was too far away. on top of that, i loaned off all my geckos to a friend in cali. too bad 6 of some of the most valuable already died on him, and another 3 crested gecko hatchlings on top of that.

those animals were rock solid when i sent them to him. now i hardly have anymore CB offspring.
