Before I get the standard "ZOMG THERE'S ALREADY A THOUSAND VISTA THREADS IBTL", I've already looked through some of them. However, I just want your bottom-line opinions, not a bunch of technical detail.
Basically I've been asked to recommend some upgrades for the computers at my place of work, hardware and software-wise. There's been some talk about upgrading our machines to Vista. What I want to know is, should we bother? Is Vista okay, or should we stick with XP for as long as we can? Or will we have to get Vista at some point in the future anyway?
Based on what I've read so far, Vista seems to be rather buggy. I'm guessing that patches and fixes will eventually come out for all of that, but as things are right now is it a good idea to go ahead and get Vista now? Or are we better off hanging onto what we've got now? 4/26/2007 9:54:59 AM |

No. Stick with XP. Vista has more problems then XP did when it was first released. 4/26/2007 10:08:58 AM |

Playing with Vista at home is one thing, but I would never recommend upgrading work computers to it until it is much more stable and has better drivers.

I would hope that if you were going to make a recommendation whether or not to move to Vista, you could do better research than making a thread on TWW. 4/26/2007 10:37:14 AM |

Of course I'm doing my own research, I just wanted some superficial opinions from the tech community on here.
Thanks to everyone else who actually gave input.

runs fine on a macbook pro... minimal problems so far at least. printing is slow. we use a networked hp printer and it takes ~15-20 to start printing. not a huge deal but that's my biggest concern. that, and the colors on worms armageddon go crazy sometimes till you miminize the game and bring it back up 4/26/2007 1:07:56 PM |

no advantage yet to switch to vista... currently very little DX10 support which is the 'big' deal with it from a gaming perspective... right now all it will do is hog resources and not work right with some of your hardware.... most software should be ok... 4/26/2007 4:23:12 PM |

one dell work computer on our sbs2003 domain has vista business. the vista computer is much easier to use on the network than the xp computers. the drivers are fine for it since they aren't advanced.
vista ultimate at home, however, is a pain with graphics drivers sucking, chipset drivers sucking, etc. 4/27/2007 8:48:08 AM |

less steps than xp to set stuff up. it honestly just seems to integrate better. sorry i don't have specifics, been a while since i set it up.
wasn't worth it to buy vista over xp, but it was the same price so figured i'd try it

Depends on how you define problems, I find Vista works better XP did when it first came out (or rather just as good), but more "compatibility" issues I find.4/27/2007 4:40:27 PM |
