Overheard a convo with some peeps at the water cooler this morning on the jizzob. Don't know if it's true yet. But I figure since Kobe can't compete without the help of an elite NBA superstar by his side, there might be some truth to this. I'll keep you posted. 5/3/2007 3:44:12 PM |

The theoretical Lakers blockbuster is to swing a summer trade if Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal or Pau Gasol becomes available -- although it likely would require trading prospect Andrew Bynum, something the Lakers have resisted doing. Including Lamar Odom in such a trade wouldn't necessarily fit Phil Jackson's concept of adding one major player but is another option." |

This would be a great trade for the league.
Garnett absolutely must get out of Minnesota you just cant have a star player on an ungodly team in a small market.
Garnett would be an absolutely perfect fit with the Lakers. Garnett isnt really a #1 scoring option he's more of a guy who picks his spots. He'd dominate the glass and pairing him with Odom, Kwame, and Kobe would give the Lakers amazing size without making them "slow".
I think Minnesota will keep Garnett though because McHale has no clue what he's doing. 5/3/2007 5:07:04 PM |

Well rumors DO turn into actions (in most Nba cases). I'm just awaiting the low-down scoop from one of my homedogs. But the Lakes have no choice. It is evident now that Kobe can't lead a team (or build/develope a team) like Jordan or Shaq could. So he has to have elite help, then he'll just take all the credit. But he cannot do it by himself. Fact.
Year after year, I grow sick of hearing "Kobe needs help blah blah blah". You bring talent to that team, and he'll continue to destroy them (see; Marbury). But someone elite, on his level or better, he'll have a chance. Too bad that only consist of about 10% of the NBA. Good luck on your futile search.

Not really. It's just evident that Kobe can't beat very good Western Conference teams by himself 4 out of 7 times. Please do not try to compare Jordan's counterparts (including Pippen) or Shaq's counterparts (including Kobe or Wade) to fucking Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown.
Quote : | "You bring talent to that team, and he'll continue to destroy them (see; Marbury). " |
What? What talent has Kobe destroyed. Please. You better not say Lamar Odom.

Look man, I'm not going to respond to insults of that nature. But if you think Pippen was elite you don't know very much about the NBA then. Jordan took an average group of guys and transformed them. When he first landed on the bulls, he was the only shinning star. Thats the truth.
The worm was not elite help either.

because D.Wade and the refs won that title.
Shaq looked like shit in the Finals.
You could certainly argue that Alonzo Mourning had as much to do with that championship as Shaq did.
And anyone who argues against Scottie Pippen being an elite player is an idiot.
Scottie nearly won another championship in Portland too.

Pippen was voted one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time. Earl, you have to be trolling if you don't think Pippen was an elite player.
And as for this "potential" trade...I have been waiting for this to happen since mid-season. It would be a smart move. The Lakers would have to lose Bynum and possibly even Walton, but it would give Kobe another guy who can shoulder some of the scoring responsibility, night in and night out.5/3/2007 5:34:52 PM |

I think he's talking about Pippen.
^I don't like the idea of Kidd to the Lakers. Maybe because I'm a semi-Lakers fan, but I just don't see Kidd taking that team to the next level. He won't hit open jumpers from Kobe's occasional passes, and while he might make the other players of the team better, he's too old now to elevate the Lakers to contenders.

i think Kidd and Carter work pretty well together and I could see similarities with Kidd and Kobe working together...Kidd would obviously acknowledge not being the go-to guy
I don't think you could compare it too well to Payton on the Lakers a few years back...not only was it Payton but it was Malone and Shaq...that was just too many players...hell if they got a Pau Gasol and a Brevin Knight they would be twice as good 5/3/2007 5:48:37 PM |

Hey, I feel the same way about kidd as well. He really wouldn't fit into that system. Garnett or another dominate big man would be their best bet. Yeah Kidd does not take the Lakers to the next level at all.
They need a post presence and someone who can score. PG is not the Lakers true need they would be fine with an adequate PG. Someone who can hit open jumpers and play good defense. Neither of those are Kidd's strengths.
Bynum for Kidd would be an awful trade for the Lakers. You dont give up 19 year old big men who are potential all-stars for an old PG with declining skills unless you truly believe the move will win you a championship. 5/3/2007 5:58:14 PM |
