I really screwed up my ipod today. I had it plugged up to the usb port on my computer charging. At the same time, I was attempting to reformat my Western Digital External Hard Drive. I right clicked my computer, Manage, Disc Management. Mistakenly right clicked my ipod and reformatted from FAT32 to NTFS. This erased everything including the software on the ipod. I can't even turn it off. It just sits there reloading itself with the Apple Logo. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Having trouble finding it. I need it for an 80g Video Ipod. The 5th generation. I only see a reset for the shuffle. 5/6/2007 2:18:06 PM |

Oh, weird. Have you tried syncing it with iTunes? 5/6/2007 2:23:39 PM |

^ That is only for the 1st and 2nd generation shuffle, according to the installer itself. 5/6/2007 2:27:44 PM |

if it still mounts as a drive, reformat it fat-32 and try the ipod updater/reset utility built into the latest version of itunes. I'm assuming you've already tried to use the "restore" option in itunes...

Itunes won't even recognize it, nor will the computer. It just has the black screen with the apple logo, makes a few clicking noises, flashes light, then resets. Makes a tiny noise as it resets. Can't hold down the Play button to turn it off. Can't lock it. Can't do anything with it really. I guess I'll have to take it to the Apple Store. 5/6/2007 2:36:00 PM |

In case anyone ever needs a fix for this problem...
Took it to the Apple Store (I live in Charlotte). You have to make an appointment online to do that. Basically, you have to hold the Menu button and the center button down for 5-10 seconds. This resets it. Then you hold the Play/Pause button and the center button down for another 5-10 seconds. This puts it in disc mode. At this point, you can run restore through the newest version of Itunes (7.1.1). I was just lucky to have a store nearby or else I'd have to pay the $29 option to ship it to Apple and wait who knows how long. 5/12/2007 8:14:17 AM |
