When I apply the brakes on my 2000 Honda Accord the front left brake makes a loud continuous knocking noise. Most of the times when I left off the brakes it stops but sometimes it continues to make a softer knocking noise until I tap the brakes again. What could it be?

ive seen this a few times and have always been able to fix it by putting the right front pads on the left front and vice versa. worth a shot

does it surge or pull at all? could be worn slides, loose caliper or a warped rotor
