the one from the last page apparently has a vh45 from what I read, not the RB26 or VR38. I believe there are some GT500 cars still using RBs. I think nissan is mostly using the Z33s though as rules allow engine swaps (They may be using VQ35s more though).

Nissan exec confirms Infiniti GT-R under consideration

Man, I would LOVE to see what an Infiniti GT-R would look like from the outside... even a couple of artist renderings would be very nice.

And it is interesting that Nissan is considering this. If it has the same engine and the same performance (slightly decreased, actually), but would cost perhaps 20-30 grand more, what would it compete against? I can think of...

Since there is a bunch of nissan hatred floating around on other forums i'll clarify some stuff about the new GTR:

Japanese GTR is "governed" at 111mph, USDM one should top out at 192. The Japanese GTR will throw a check engine light if it goes over 111mph, which has to be reset at the dealer for $1000 or the warranty is voided.

USDM GTR will have wheel sensors in it that make it impossible to swap out the stockers for other wheels. Show cars so far have driven in on stock wheels then had aftermarket wheels swapped on. Still the stock wheels are light and wide so they should do great. Tire changes still cost about $350 per tire in labor alone, which is pretty damn lame.

In an interview with a British magazine someone from nissan hinted at a "GT" version that would have less power but a 6sp manual.

While I don't know 100% for sure, I'm gonna disagree. I've read from a few sources that its governed to 111mph and that its internal GPS sensor knows when its at a race track (this is only for JDM models, i.e. japanese race tracks). When it recognizes its at a track a msg comes up notifying you that you're at a track and can unlock the limiter but that you will be voiding the warranty. You can't continue driving until you acknowledge the msg.

EITHER WAY THATS FUCKING GAY. GTFO of here with that shit. Hey lets build a 500hp sports car, but heaven forbid you actually take it somewhere its designed for.

Previous reports, even a scan of an official brochure show 520 PS = 512 hp, so I wonder what's going on. Perhaps for the UK, they boost it to 550 hp?

Damn, that would be awesome.

And $150,000 is a lot of money, which means in the US, it will retail at around $100,000.

The old R34's (especially the blackbird) were fucking gorgous cars. Why did nissan have to change it soooooo much. All they had to do was tweak the lines a little like what ferrari does and voila pure sex.

C&D has gotten similar numbers with a Z06, which a faster trap speed. And in R&T the Z06's trap was much faster, not to mention it trounced it in acceleration beyond 100mph. Regarding Buttonwillow, do you not think its a little biased for a former Nissan test driver to be the one running all three cars?

Disclaimer: Don't get me wrong, I'd have a hell of a hard time choosing between a Z06 and a GT-R. After seeing one at the auto show, hot damn!

Earlier this week, spy photographers spotted a Nissan GT-R V-Spec arriving at Nissan's Nürburgring workshop. The visible changes are certainly subtle, and not as far-reaching as some had expected, but the differences are present nonetheless, suggesting that Nissan's GT-R — which already leaves a Porsche 911 Turbo gasping in its wake — is being prepped to be even more formidable.


Nissan has also set a sub-7 minute 25 second Nürburgring goal for the GT-R V-Spec — 18 seconds faster than the current car.

Underhood, the GT-R V-Spec's turbocharged mill will see an increase in boost, raising output to at least 550 horsepower — up from the standard GT-R's 480 horsepower. In addition to the power boost, the V-Spec will shed 330 pounds.

This test car gets a revised front splitter, which sports some additional air intake slits, presumably to feed more cooling air to the brakes. New six-spoke wheels also house what appear to be a revised braking system. The golden Brembo brake calipers were an ever-present feature even on the first GT-R prototypes, but they're a no-show on this tester. A closer look at the prototype's brakes reveal that the road-going GT-R V-Spec will likely use a carbon-ceramic setup.

With a curb weight of 3,836 pounds, the GT-R is no featherweight. And while the standard GT-R obviously overcomes any weight penalty in heroic fashion, it's compelling to imagine a GT-R that's some 300-plus pounds lighter. The V-Spec is rumored to shave at least that much weight thanks to the use of carbon fiber body panels, and other assorted techniques. The prototype photographed has a portion of its rear wing blacked-out, suggesting it is one of the carbon fiber pieces that will make up the V-Spec package.[/quote]

"Leading up to the official reveal of the Corvette ZR-1, a rare week went by when we didn't see spy shots of the General's new super coupe eating up the Nurburgring. But still images don't tell the whole tale, so InsideLine sent its spies to the North Loop with a video camera to capture an uncloaked ZR-1 making the rounds on the 'Ring. According to the men behind the lens, they were able to clock the 620 hp, supercharged 'Vette running laps "in the low 7:40s," easily within reach of supercars costing substantially more than the ZR-1's estimated $100k price tag. But what about the elephant on the 'Ring in the room? The Nissan GT-R V-Spec.

As reported earlier this week, spies caught the GT-R V-Spec lapping the Nordschleife, and with stopwatches at the ready, they were able to time Godzilla's lightweight (by an estimated 330 pounds), more powerful (70 hp or so) sibling at an unbelievable 7:25 per lap. According to the crew that crudely timed the ZR-1, the track was damp, so that 7:40 time could easily be improved by at least four or five seconds. But that's still a long way off.

Obviously, both lap times should be taken with a grain of salt considering the less-than-accurate way in which they were captured, but that won't stop the smack-talk. Keep it civil folks.

^thats bullshit. The 2005 Z06 clocked in 7:42 around the ring. There's simply no way in hell the new ZR1 will be anywhere near 7:40.

And I find it hilarious that people are giving such props to the GT-R, like it's something amazing.

It's going to be ~120 to get one in the US at launch. Thats 40-45K more than the Z06. And it's .1 second faster around the track. .1 second. And it's 3100lbs, 700 pounds lighter than the GTR.

Not even in the same class, hahahaha. No one will have a hard time choosing. 75k versus 120-130k. Seriously?

Now if you want to talk choices between some other similarly priced cars (like the ZR1, base model Astons, Porsche's, and like, be my guest. But at least be in the same price ballpark here)

Oh, and GOOD LUCK to anyone that thinks they're gonna get a GT-R for $70k. 12,000/yr worldwide, keep dreaming.

The GT-R runs on much better tires stock than the Z06, so you should take that into consideration for its times, as well as the difference the ZR1 will have.

^^The GTR is going to be anywhere from 105-135 here in the US, maybe more depending on dealer markeup.

Magazines are comparing the GTR and Z06. They aren't even in the same class (the GTR is a LOT more expensive), and yet have virtually identical numbers on most tracks.

My point was, if you want to make the comparison, it should be to the ZR1, as they are close to the same pricetag, but my guess is, the ZR1 will eat the GTR up around non-german super tracks. Especially with similarly equipped tires and suspension setup.

I am in no way a "fanboy" of the GTR, I love corvettes also. That was unofficial timing of a ZR1, I just found the article interesting - it was posted on leftlane news and autoblog. After a few years hopefully the GTR will go down in value a bit and I consider it in the same class as the Z06 and the porsche turbo despite the price differences.

I'm talking about the price to actually get one in your driveway. There is a HUGE difference. The GTR ain't gonna come down in price anytime soon either, take a look at the EVO for evidence of that.

And sumfoo, just talking about price class, not weight or tires or suspension (just threw that in at the end). Although tires in this case is a valid concern, as the vette you can do as you please, with the GTR you get one option or void the warranty. Again much more expensive and in an entirely different class of vehicle (price-wise).

^ The VQ series engine is pure junk. It's only won wards 10 best engine award for 13 times, 9 in a row.

Show me 1 thats making more power and revving as high as the rb's do and can..


I've seen a few.. not just 1 but a few rb 26s making 1500+hp at over 10000rpm
