I just got done installing Vista on my macbook pro. I'm trying to communicate for remote desktop to my desktop. Problem is i can't ping anything past the router. I can use the internet just fine. I can connect to my desktops shared media using WMP11 just fine. but if i try to ping its IP, it times out. if i try to ping my xbox's IP, it also times out. I'm stumped on this one. Any input or advice? (apart from uninstall Vista)

I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, i've tried releaseing and renewing. I've tried disabling my firewall, nothing works.

BTW. router is a Linksys Draft-N with gigabit.
Desktop is running Vista Ultimate
Desktop is wired to the router
Laptop is running Vista Ultimate
Laptop is wireless using WEP 40bit.

I got on my desktop and opened a few ports on the local firewall. I also tried connecting to the laptop via the desktop and that seemed to do the trick, since then it all works fine. I think I also had one of those annoying security check boxes enabled on the desktop. End result, everything works great with a bit of troubleshooting heh.

only thing i dont understand is why i couldn't ping the xbox via the laptop if it was the desktop that was causing the problems. On second note, it could be because i used the desktop to create the network (private) so maybe it put it at the head of the network as far as security.

I don't believe xboxes reply to pings. Mine doesn't anyway. A device won't reply to a ping unless it's programmed to.
