yes i searched.
i need a new doctor, and not a general practitioner or family medicine doc. i need someone in internal medicine. more specifically, i need someone who actually still likes being a doctor and is willing to help me figure out wtf is wrong. i have myasthenia gravis, and i have a specialist for that at UNC. i've been through 2 internists who just don't care one bit lately and i'm sick of wasting my time and money.
if someone knows of a dr who specializes in autoimmune disorders but practices normal medicine too (can see me if i have a cold or something), that would be perfect.
i really feel like i'm going to end up on that Mystery Diagnosis show on discovery health channel some day. 6/5/2007 9:54:54 AM |

I bet you're one of those patients that doctors see on their schedule and are like "goddamnit not her again" 6/5/2007 9:58:32 AM |

Jason Perrow is who my mom sees. She'll end up on Mystery Diagnosis before you will (she doesn't even have a valid Dx yet all they have is 'some AI disorder...') He is just a PA, though, but at these folks. He's worth the practice's bullshit.
...He's gone to bat for her several times with the insurance company when they balked at paying for the qty of meds he RXs.
Dunno if this helps since he's not an MD But I've copied your post to her, asking who her main MD is.

Totally her fault for having a time-intensive disorder And you can't fault someone for not wanting to accept the normal 'hi...you have a pulse? Okay, my nurse will handle the rest of your appt' visit.
A general practicioner is who she said came to mind. He IS pretty awesome, but you specifically said no GPs.

^^jackass
^thank you.
i've had thyroid problems in the past which cleared up (for the most part) after a couple of years on synthroid although they were never sure what was wrong with me. now my thyroid gland is enlarged again. i also have myasthenia gravis (a rare autoimmune disorder), for which i had a thymectomy (removal of thymus gland) 2 years ago. the thymus gland is supposed to shrink back in your late teens (to <5cm), but apparently mine didn't and in fact grew even bigger. it reached 23cm long by the time it was taken out. my MG is dramatically better but i still have the occasional symptom. because of my MG i cannot take certain medicines and my body reacts strangely & unpredictably to others, and a lot of general practicitioners and ER docs are afraid to treat me. there is a lot more to my MG, esp the way i was diagnosed, but i'm not spelling that all out right now.
i now have joint swelling (a lot of fluid) and the tendons/ligaments in the joints are swollen and irritated too. it's not RA. i am in good shape and i exercise. i am too young for all of these joint problems, and once you have one AI disorder, your much much much much more likely to have another esp if you're a woman. so excuse me for wanting to figure out what the hell is wrong with my body.
