I'm going to run a TWW fantasy football league again this year. I've already registered the league on Yahoo! and got a draft time set. The draft time will be Sunday Sept. 2nd at 2pm. I know that this is almost three months away, but I wanted to make sure I got a good draft time. I'll bump this thread periodically as it gets closer to draft time.
The rules are the same this year as they were last year, here they are if you didn't play last year.

^Yeah, that screwed me once last year.
the proposed changes look good, but I think receiving and rushing yards should be the same.....a 150 yard rushing game is = to a 150 receiving game imo.

Dude, I wasnt trashing your league, nor do I intend on quitting it. I simply thought that you could be perhaps "widening the talent pool" a bit too much.
Based on your settings, a one yard TD run by Mike Alstott (his only carry of the day), or a punt return by some 5th string WR holds more fantasy value than 120 yards rushing and no TD's by Tomlinson. Because you have played so many years (I have been playing since I drafted Christian Okoye in 92), I am sure you realize that Fantasy Football is predomenantly dominated by stars, not by goal-line vultures & punt returns. I find it much easier to lose because larry johnson beat me after a great game as opposed to losing because Rashad Washington beat me. Who is Rashad Washington? He is the Jets Punt Return man. I see your point, hopefully now you can see mine as well.

Glad to hear we aren't losing The Guru. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

This is correct. Another example would be the Julius Jones / Marion Barber III situation in Dallas last year. You get to have two running backs every week, so snag a tandem maybe? As for return guys. They go out there, get yards, and sometimes even get TD's. They may not be the best receiver on the team, but if they break one for big yards or points, maybe they are the best return guy on the team. (I.E. Devin Hester) I like having more WR options out there to choose from in a 12 team league, and this helps.

Fantasy Football is what the league rules make it. I've got a format where goal line vultures can rack you up TD's, or they can net you nothing seeing little yardage if they get stood up at the gates. Return guys may rack up over 100 yards and a TD, or may only get kicked off to once in the game. My leagues aren't dominated by stars, just whoever gets the yards and TD's.

I do man. I can see where bonuses might make the game more interesting with more more opportunities to snag points. I prefer to go with just yards and TD's (And impressive FG's I suppose) Start a league with bonuses and maybe I'll see if I can figure it out.

Not trying to be an asshole, but I think Yahoo, ESPN, etc. now have default scoring of 10 & 25 yards/point because it *does* reflect real football. In real life, field position is extremely important, a dive into the endzone doesn't deserve 50% more credit than the 80-yard run that sets it up, and a QB that throws for 400 yards and has a halfback run in scores is much more valuable than a QB that throws for 100 and finds the endzone once.6/8/2007 3:08:53 PM |

^I couldnt agree with you more.
But I have a feeling that PrufrockNCSU wants it to be this way. I dont know why, but he does.
For the record, it's not a matter of me "trying it out" and just being stubborn or stuck in my ways. I have played this exact same format before, which is why I made suggestions for other formats.
Personally, it doesn't matter how we do this. I will compete, but this will by no means be my primary or secondary league. I do hope that you at least consider instead of making an overhaul to the point settings, at least make a few tweaks.
This reminds me of a league I played in 2 years ago. 2005 was the year the Jerome Bettis had about 500 yards rushing and ~13-15 TD's. He was one of the most productive fantasy players that year, but yet finished around 19th in rushing yards among starting running backs.
Absurd. But if this is the way it will be...so be it. 6/8/2007 3:44:42 PM |

We're definitely staying at 12 teams. I've tried 16 before and the talent poole is stretched too thin.
After consideration of changing the scoring system I've decided to leave it as is. Most notably considered was the 25 yds. per point for QB's, but that system involves 4 pts. per TD, and that just ruins it for me. For me to leave it at 6 per TD and 25 yds. per point would make a QB heavy league even moreso. Rushing / receiving stays at 20 to a point. Get 100 yards, that's almost a TD without reaching paydirt. To me that seems pretty reasonable. I'm hoping low scoring won't prevent anyone from having fun. Good luck everyone. If you have any other questions / comments plesae post them or send me a PM. 6/9/2007 4:36:28 PM |

The 120 yards = 1 touchdown thing just doesn't correlate to real world value
Last year Tiki had a bunch of games with maybe 150 yards and no TDs
Jacobs would have maybe 30 yards and 2 scores
In a 10 ypp league, both those games net you 15 points
In a 20 ypp league, Jacobs scores 13 points to Barbers 7, while Barber clearly did most of the work and had the superior game
Vultures will play far too important a role in a 20 ypp league

I appreciate the bump. We're a little more than seven weeks out from the draft, and I can't wait for the preseason to begin.
The date of the draft was chosen because it is two days after the end of the preseason, but gives managers time to pick up players off the waiver wire or trade if they want to before the first week starts. I don't want to run the draft and then have someone get hurt in the last game of the pre-season.
As for the scoring, I'm sticking with it as it is. I'm not throwing any curve balls since these are the rules from previous years on Yahoo! with the excpetion of points for return yards & touchdowns. I looked over the top players from last year and only two RB's in the top 50 stood out to me as goalline vultures, one of them scored less than a RB who was a return man. I also noticed that the top 25 players were all RB's & QB's, and as that's the case I don't think there's a need to bump the scoring. If you disagree with me and aren't interested in playing, that's totally cool. If the rules make it so you're not interested in participating fully this season, please let me know.
I'd like to go ahead and put a Tdub name with a team name for everyone so we know who's in. Here's what I can figure out so far:
Raleigh Rebels - PrufrockNCSU Fucking Chotches - DROD900? Smashmouth - wlb420? Mike_Vick's_VapoRub - amac884 Hellfire & Cupakes - ? Mr. Bojangles - ? IrwinFletcher - ? Mod Squad - ? Mana Dragons - Shivan Bird Donkey Riders - KyleAtState The Guru - Panthro Mr mexico's pitbulls - ?
If your team is on the list with a question mark next to it please send me a PM letting me know which team is yours.
Again, good luck to everyone this season. If you have any more questions or comments please let me know.

automated might be a word specific to my vernacular (a sports talk 1st). I mean the style draft where you go in ahead of time and there is a list of 2 or 3 hundred players ranked from best to worst. You have the option to keep the rankings or change them to how you think the list should be. Then, depending on draft order, whoever your top player on the list when it is your draft pick is who you get. I like it because it is instant and you don't have to be drafting for hours. Live drafts are fun, i've just had my fill.
an example: your list is 1) LT 2) Manning 3) LJ If you have the second pick in the draft and the person with the 1st pick takes Manning, you autmatically get LT. Or the person with the first pick takes LT, you get Manning. 7/12/2007 9:28:10 AM |

Couldn't that mean, hypothetically, that you end up with a team of 15 RB's just because of the way the draft went. For instance, What if my draft order was like this........
1. LT 20. Portis 21. Lynch 40. Julius Jones 41. Duece 60. DeAngelo Williams 61. Tatum Bell.....
etc, etc. (A Hypothetical list...not by any means accurate)
I could end up with all of those players, not neccesarily because thats who i wanted at those positions, but because that was the best available at that time (according to my list).
amirite?
if so.....Quote : | " " |
