Will be doing various rankings throughout the summer leading up to the season as well as some during the season. Will cover a lot of things: teams, individuals, coaches, etc. Think I will start off with RB units... this isn't necessarily based on talent or stats (some funky option team might have some crazy stats), just more who I think are the best overall RB units
Unit Ranking: RBs 1. Arkansas 2. Clemson 3. West Virginia 4. Texas A&M 5. Oklahoma State
1. Arkansas - Pretty damn obvious, Heisman front runner Darren McFadden (1,647 yards, 14 TDs) and his backup Felix Jones (1,168 yards, 7.6 ypc, 6 TDs), who would probably start on 95% of the teams in the country
2. Clemosn - Could end up #1 by the end of the season with a weaker schedule than Arkansas, James Davis (1,187 yards, 17 TDs), and CJ Spiller (938 yards, 10 TDs), who I think could be the second most talented RB in the country behind McFadden
3. West Virginia - Everyone knows Slaton is a badass (1744 yards, 16 TDs) but I have them ranked this high based on Noel Devine immediately making an impact as well... FB Owen Schmitt is a beast too (7 TDs)
4. Texas A&M - Thought about putting them 3rd but think Devine will keep WV ahead... Jorvorskie Lane is a freaking bear, unstoppable inside the 10 yard line (19 TDs) while Big 10 Freshman of the Year Mike Goodson is more of a home run threat (6.7 ypc)
5. Oklahoma State - my dark horse, 2 really good RBs, both of whom were a bit banged up last year. Dantrell Savage (820 yards) and Keith Toston (631 yards), and both are really good receiving options as well. Oklahoma State has a really balanced attack and uses a lot of screen passes to the RBs. I could see them combining for 1500-1700 yards rushing and 700-900 yards receiving. You will hear more about Oklahoma State from me later...

no homer, but we have to be close, if not in the top 5 with our RB's.
that's about the only highlight of our team this year tho. 6/6/2007 3:16:01 PM |

^^begs to question whether team RB ranking is just the RBs or also the OL + RBs.... Since the rushing yardage really depends heavily on both... in that case we arent in the top 25.... 6/6/2007 3:23:25 PM |

Yea I think by the end of the season we will end up in the top 5. Andre and Tony are gonna go off in TOB's offense. 6/6/2007 3:24:40 PM |

^^ its more how I think they will perform overall, so while OL obviously factors in quite a bit, it is more looking just at the RBs. I think McFadden would still get 1000 yards if 5 drunknloaded's were blocking for him
^ I think they could too

true, but I always thought O-line was one of the positions Chuck didn't pay enough attention to. I think TOB will coach 'em up a little better, and hopefully we won't be playing catch-up every game, so our RB's will actually have a chance to rack up some stats.6/6/2007 3:36:41 PM |

While I love TB and AB, you guys are looking at our RBs with red shades on.
It's debatable if we have a top 3 backfield in the ACC... 6/6/2007 3:36:51 PM |

if o-line is factored in, I'd agree, we have 3 very good backs.....you'd be hard pressed to find a school that has 3 that are combined as good as ours.
Again, if you talk about backfield in the game at once maybe. I personally don't think spiller will have that great of a year. VT, imo, would be a close 2nd......and with their perennially good o-lines I would put them in the top 5 before Clemson.6/6/2007 3:54:39 PM |

With WVU you have to almost consider Pat White a RB because of the system they run.
Between Slaton, White and Devine (if he has an impact) I would rank them above Clemson.
Didn't Clemson lose most of their OL? I think it will be a rough first couple of games for Clemson until the RB's get used to more contact. 6/6/2007 4:03:54 PM |

not to mention a chunk of their D too. even the best running teams won't do well if they have to play from behind every game.6/6/2007 4:08:36 PM |

^^ yeah, I purposely did not include any QBs... and they lost 4 starters but the people they have back have played a lot.
^ and remember, this is overall RB, not just rushing... Spiller is a great receiver too...

true.....I just think Clemson blew their chance at greatness last year, and the team as a whole won't show the flashes of brilliance it did last year.
also, I may be wrong about this but didn't spiller rack up major #'s during the shit games and disappear (as the whole team did) during big games?6/6/2007 4:22:52 PM |

why wouldn't OL be in the mix for figuring out how good the RB's are, they were valuable in getting the stats for the RB's last year (and every year before) so it seems OL should be in the mix this year as well. Bout the only player I saw that could be Heisman like running the ball with an average OL was Vick, the dog fighter, not the one that held up McDonalds (ducks for cover), I mean Andre and Toney behind a typical Wisconsin line or an early to mid 90's Nebraska line would yield two 1200 yard backs if you ask me.6/6/2007 11:22:55 PM |

if Tim Tebow has as good of an arm as everyone has been saying, he is going to be scary good
and as much as it hurts me to say, I'm suprised Michigan hasnt been getting more press with all the players they are bringing back (Henne, Hart, etc.)
