I'll start

X-men 3: Finally watching it last night. I was not impressed with the plot at all. They killed off two of the biggest characters (Cyclops and Xavier) in the first 30 min. I did not think the Phoenix had a big enough roll in the plot using her powers for good or evil besides killing off the two before mentioned characters. Rouge giving up mutant powers wtf. Lastly I thought the mutant cure was a decent idea but i thought the trigger that led to the "mutant war" could have been done more thoughtfully.

as far as disappointing goes, xmen 3 was way more disappointing than spiderman 3 in my opinion

spiderman 3 was "decent"...x-men 3 was "not that good"

yeah i did. I am not saying XMEN 3 was my biggest disappointment. That may have to get awarded to the Matrix sequels or some other that i need to think about. But i will agree that spiderman 3 was a let down, not quite as bad though as X-Men 3 imho. I do not see how any kid who was a x-men fan growing up could have liked the way the last film turned out.

^I thought about mentioning Caddyshack 2, but let's be honest: did anyone expect that to be good? if not, it couldn't be disappointing.

I was a kid, and as a kid I was stupid. Most children aren't smart enough to assign the appropriate level of expectation to things.

Professor X was not killed. Watch after the credits...

as far as Cyclops, they never found his body. Phoenix, a known liar, said he was dead, which lacks total veracity and credibility.

As far as disappointing sequels...

Robocop 3
Major League: Back to the Minors
Back to the Future 3
Gremlins 2: The New Batch
Land of the Dead

The dropoff from X2, a very solid superhero movie, to X3, a lame superhero movie, was pretty big.

However, it wasn't anywhere close to the dropoff between Spider-man 2, the greatest superhero movie of all time, and Spider-man 3, another lame superhero movie.

meh. although i disagree regarding the dropoff anyway, the post i was replying to seemed to be talking about as a movie in general.

and come on, once you get past the gay dancing in the street shit and such, spidey 3 was entertaining imo. it also had a coherent and somewhat interesting plot.

x3 was just a terrible terrible, irritating, piece of shit excuse for a movie.

Doesn't make the movie suck any less, you know.

Batman Returns (not bad mind you, but disappointing compared to the first)
Batman Forever
Kill Bill 2 (which managed to ruin the first movie for me too)

I don't put Batman and Robin on the list because I never expected it to be good anyway. There are other movies like that too. Sequels to movies that were "eh" to begin with, or stuff that just didn't need a sequel. Like Lost World. Stupid book, never deserved to be made into a movie, though I will say the movie was better than the book.
