I know most people will shout Bose right in the beginning, but after reading some reviews (and looking in my wallet), I wanted to ask if anyone has tried/heard of these

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B000OMKR8E/sr=8-1/qid=1182181792/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_top/104-2032055-7407129?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics&qid=1182181792&sr=8-1#customerReviews

Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones

I work in an office with the dull air system always running, and also I am forced to fly a good bit and would like to be able to cut out the airplane noise

I searched through the forums but couldn't hit the right keyword if these had been mentioned before. Thanks!

I would recommend getting a good pair of in-ear headphones, I have Shure E2c's that I use at work to drown out the server at my feet, at the gym to cancel out the Britney Spears and other crap music playing in there, and in flight they worked fine the few times I've flown with them (to Germany and back) I can keep my music at a low volume and comfortably hear my music and still block out all other background noise

They arent noise cancelling, but sound isolating. By design the earphones block out most external noise like earplugs, without the need to have any noise cancellation.

Take a look at the new Shure SE210's for example: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2103027,00.asp

Do not get noise-cancelling headphones if you truly care about your music. It will alter the sound significantly.

...and in general, don't ever buy anything made by Bose. Period.

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I saw a Bose display the other day and was somewhat impressed, but $99 impressed, not $299 impressed.

Any recommendations, or do I just go with a set of earmuffs and some in-ear headphones. I'm not looking for anything stylish, just functional.

Yeah, I'm not going to be able to pull off the open backed ones. Thanks though.

Not noise canceling, but I picked up a pair of AKG K44 headphones at Guitar Center for $40 bucks. They're not quite the quality of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 (the best ones I've ever heard), but for the difference in price they sound pretty good for most general listening applications.

These are what I have, and I LOVE them. I wear them all day every day at work, and frequently take them on my long distance plane trips. They work wonderfully.

You may be right on their 2.1 and 4.1 systems, but the original wave radio and its updated derivatives (with the CD and iPod) will still put most of the newer ipod desktop iPod speakers in that price range to shame.
