I'm the President of the Students for Sensible Drug Policy at NCSU and I've been doing some work with the Marijuana Policy Project. They are issuing a report soon about collateral effects of the Drug War. Specifically, they are looking for someone from NC who lost their financial aid under the Higher Education Act for a drug conviction.

I understand stuff like this is sensitive stuff for some people. You don't even have to talk to me about it if you don't want. If you just want to shoot me a PM I can put you in touch with the person at MPP who is in charge of this project.

Thanks for the help.

yeah I really can't believe that someone who gets charged for assault, gets caught stealing stuff, or any other crime can still get financial aid. Yet someone caught with a dime bag when they are 18 can not receive it. Seems kind of counter-productive in using the justice system to rehabilitate and turn them into contributing members of society.

Not getting a drug conviction has affected me. My parents have paid thousands of dollars to keep me out of trouble for marijuana possession.

I have a friend from Illinois, and where he was from, drug possession was no big deal. He got a ticket in high school and dealt with it on his own, and his mom told him never to get one again. He's 27 now, and he was denied a job with the government. It's weird cause if folks in his community thought a possession ticket was a big deal, his family woulda fought it like mine, and he'd have had that job.

Weird thread. Everyone knows North Carolina is a state with decriminilized marijuana laws right?

"Decriminalization reflects changing social and moral views. A society may come to the view that an act is not harmful, should no longer be criminalized, or is otherwise not a matter to be addressed by the criminal justice system."

Atleast we're not in SC. Be glad to live in NC.

Oh and another thing, i read that thread from 2006 and so many people are a bunch of idiots. Some people assume just because someone smokes pot means they're hippie/long haired lazy person who plays drums all day and just "talks" about reform. COMPLETELY NOT TRUE. A very very very small percentage of people fall into that catagory.

It's like saying, "hey you had a few beers this weekend, must mean you're an alcoholic who sits around and drinks 24/7". People need to get out of the idea that drugs are black and white. Anyway, i think the campus needs to focus more on alcohol awareness and such, considering alcohol kills, marijuana has never killed anyone in the history of man kind (directly). Simply not toxic enough, and you can't OD on it.

Anyone know that it was mandatory to grow hemp in America for quite a long time?

I know NC has lax laws on marijuana, but you can still be arrested for it so its really not decriminalized. Until its reclassified as an infraction instead of a misdemeanor it is going to cause people unfair problems.

Correct it's still technically a misdemeanor, but even the State lawmakers have recognized it as decriminilized.-->

"The state has decriminalized marijuana to some degree. Typically, decriminalization means no prison time or criminal record for first-time possession of a small amount for personal consumption. The conduct is treated like a minor traffic violation."

Yeah, usually it doesn't even go on your record though. 9 outta 10 friends who i know that have gotten caught, it hasn't gone on thier record. Usually a fine, but usually never on the record.

"The DEA's Administrative Law Judge, Francis Young concluded: "In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume. For example, eating 10 raw potatoes can result in a toxic response. By comparison, it is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death. Marijuana in its natural form is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. By any measure of rational analysis marijuana can be safely used within the supervised routine of medical care." -US Department of Justice

I like how everyone is so FUCKING STUPID. You can find dozens and hundreds of government reports indicating how marijuana is one of the safest substances known to man. It's the damn tobacco, cotton, and oil/energy lobbyists in the government that are keeping it illegal.

^Yeah i know. I'll stop getting sidetracked. The various crimes you can commit and still get finacial aid are rediculous compared to getting kicked out for having a little dope.

Education is the way to solve this problem. I know it sounds corny, but getting people educated will really help. People need to realize that the war on drugs is NOT working one bit. In fact it's causing all drugs to become more potent and more available. The US Drug Enforcement Administration even admitted that marijuana from the late 60's early 70's on average had 1% thc. A study in 2002 showed that on average marijuana today is 15-20 percent THC. Once tax payers realize their money is being wasted (billions a year) then reform will come.

Says it becomes effective Fall of 2007. I can see why for certain crimes, but using that against a student in regard to marijuana is just silly.

^HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. Dude you are 100 percent WRONG. I could sit here and site government sources from around the world, as well as studies from the leading universities in the world proving you WRONG. HAHAH do some research before you make some stupid claim like that.

^Oh and please don't use the term "stoners" for people who smoke pot. That would be like calling you an alchoholic because you enjoy a few beers on the weekend.

"Marijuana in its natural form is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man."-US Department of Justice

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/support/marijuana

"Sister Somyah (47) of California, has had sickle cell anemia since birth. A U.S. Veteran, she has constant flu like symptoms, severe pain in the area of her spleen, nausea, and dehydration. Left sedated and nonfunctional by prescribed narcotics, Sister Somyah advocates the use of cannabis (both smoked and hemp seed oil) through her Crescent Alliance Self-Help for Sickle Cell Foundation. “I should be dead, but I just keep getting stronger. The fact that cannabis oxygenates the cells has helped to give me added, healthy years. And the nutritional benefits of the oil from hemp is likewise helping many people with sickle cell anemia.”

HOW IS THAT NOT NUTRITIONAL?

Sorry i could do on and on. I have to leave work now, so i don't have to time. If you're interested PM me.

wow, for a misinformed stoner you sure are arrogant. your research is complete bullshit; you've claimed marijuana to have no lethal dosage and claimed it to be the most nutritional plant on earth. Both of those are false. There is plenty of research out there indicating that men should stay away from cannabis products due to the plant containing chemicals similar to estrogen. Marijuana also DOES IN FACT have an LD50.

That's not to say they wouldn't ever do such a thing, but with the Dept of Ed taking care of it...they don't have to care

^Thanks. Let me rephrase that. Number one i'm not a "stoner" just like i'm not an "alchoholic".
Second, of course it has a LD50. It has to, to be catagorized as a drug. If you did a little RESEARCH you'd realize that EVERYTHING is toxic. If you eat too many potatoes or carrots or fucking beets you'll die from them. Marijuana on the other hand is different, it's physically impossible to injest or inject the amount of Marijuana to kill someone.

"The FACT is that the LD50 (the amount that would produce a lethal effect in 50% of people ingesting a substance) for marijuana is so high that it is practically impossible for anyone to get a lethal dose. Far from a gram, you'd have to eat close to 100 kilos (220 lbs.) of marijuana in 15 minutes to reach the LD50."

^^^^Haha not to mention i don't even want to start on eleusis. He's so wrong it's funny. Any studies you think you've read about "men staying away from cannibis" are complete BS and usually have fabricated test results or have been proven wrong.

^^^That's like asing "who eats oil." Just because you don't usually injest seeds, doesn't mean the oil can't be refined. Not to mention there's records of Siddhartha Gautama surviving on hemp seeds alone. They're possibly the most healthy and life sustaining seed you can injest in terms of healthy fatty acids and other nutrients. If you guys want to find out for yourself research biomass and biofuel, and you'll learn the hemp plant is the number 1 producer of biomass (some argue it's algae grown underwater), and as a result also has the highest amount of digestible oil beneficial to the human.

http://www.hemp4fuel.com/challenge.html

Obviously a one sided site, but if you read that page it'll change your views on alot of stuff. He actually gets alot of his shit from federal and state agr. reports. He has yet to be proven wrong.

^I'm confused did you just read what i wrote? The theoretical LD50 of a potato is more than marijuana. In fact probably 99.9 percent of foods we eat today are more toxic in large quantities than marijuana.
