This has happened a couple times.
I'll download and install firefox, then when I try and run it the browser window will come up (cool), that google toolbar window comes up where i can select my options (cool), then firefox locks up the CPU and the memory usage grows and grows until i kill it(not cool...last time i killed the process at 500mb).
Any ideas on why firefox doesn't like my PC? 6/26/2007 5:07:01 PM |

What extensions do you have installed? Try disabling them all then enable one by one until you find the culprit. 6/26/2007 5:17:53 PM |

^^ firefox is superior. its just not mozilla's fault if you stick a bunch of unverified extensions from every skript kiddie who comes along.
no, wait. i know. lets lock down firefox so that you only get the default presets, that way traditional mac and windows users wont hang themselves.

i just opened up both Firefox and IE to the same page.
Firefox uses 24MB,
IExplorer uses 26MB.
FTR, i only have 3 extentions for firefox: AdBlock, DownThemAll, and IETab. 6/26/2007 8:00:35 PM |

No extensions...this is a fresh download and install. I've never run FF on this PC before.

I read that part of your post, but you said nothing directly about extensions so I mentioned them.
Download and run Process Explorer http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx to confirm that Firefox is the problem.
Download and run Process Manager http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/processmonitor.mspx to find out what Firefox is doing. 6/27/2007 11:55:04 AM |

^ i'll do that if it continues to be a problem. i just tried to start it using safe-mode from the start menu and it actually started. it then asked me if i wanted to revert settings back to normal which i did, and now it seems to work fine in normal mode.
doesn't make any sense tho, because I was never even able to open firefox once after downloading/installing...so i sure as hell didn't mess up any options or anything, i couldn't even get to the settings. 6/27/2007 1:43:35 PM |

if you dont want to install IE 7 (which, Firefox homers, is a pretty secure and reliable browser), the LEAST you could do is uninstall Google Toolbar 6/27/2007 4:53:03 PM |
