The American version, as in late 996 GT3, 2004-2007.
That one is asking $69k for a ~9500 mile car. Ahmet 6/26/2007 7:28:06 PM |

ugly wheels, hate silver color - it is played out/overused, wouldn't know how to change oil or do any work on it...
other than that it probably handles like it is on rails and pulls ass like nothing else out there 6/26/2007 8:30:46 PM |

my friend drove one a few months ago. he loved it... the porsche place in Cary wanted $80k for a car in very similar condition to that (I think it was an 05). that's a good price 6/27/2007 12:27:03 AM |

I am not looking to buy one of these (though I think as far as cars go, it makes a lot of sense, interestingly they're not expensive to insure, and they don't seem to be depreciating). I'd consider one, I think it's more of wishful thinking for me at this point. The cars I can realistically consider this year are EVO8, C5/z06/996, none of which I am terribly excited about. I do really like this car though, it seems to be everything I want from a sports car. I love how they sound, feedback through the controls, etc. However it's rather hard to drive, and not terribly linear in it's throttle response +a tad nervous at the limit (but maybe that's just me being nervous, ha). 911s seem to depreciate faster than food going through my digestive track.
that being said they're great cars just horrible investments. 6/27/2007 5:43:46 PM |

I generally agree with you, however the "special" models tend not to come down so fast, especially those which are geared towards the drivers, as opposed to special trim colors etc.
I've bought/sold a lot of cars, and the range in the GT3's price represents a special value for me, as it seems I can pick one up in the low $70s, yet I'd say average value is around $82k for a 2004-2005... Ahmet 6/27/2007 6:07:38 PM |

Sure, if you don't compare them to 90% of the cars out there that depreciate faster....6/28/2007 11:23:44 PM |

996 GT3 is one hot, sexy car. If i could afford one, i would buy it.
(p.s. its probably the most difficult car i've driven in Forza 2...so if i ever did buy one i wouldn't track it anytime soon cause i'm still driving it into walls in the virtual world )

Yes, I rather like the e36 M3, it's one of my favorite cars. However, it is an early 90s chasis design (intended as an entry level sport sedan), with mid 90s updates...
The 996 GT3's got the best exhaust note I've heard, and it's sharp as well as unforgiving at the limit. It's something quite special, more so than the numbers suggest, it's extremely stiff chasis is intoxicating. I personally never felt comfortable lapping one as fast as I can lap an e36 (in reasonable street trim) around a track, it is this that is the biggest draw of the GT3 to me.
I was more interested in what the consensus was considering the car, not really just how it looks. A 996 with a few bolt ons can probably come somewhat close to it as far as the #s go. That doesn't seem to be enough with other cars though. A BMW 325 with coil overs, bigger brakes and an M3 engine does NOT feel like an M3... Then again the 996 started life to be a sports car. One can argue it both ways. What I like particularly about the GT3 is, I think I can buy/keep one for a few years and not loose a dime on it. Ahmet 7/3/2007 12:44:27 PM |

unless you crash it...
I firmly believe any car that goes on track regularly, even semiregularly, should be considered disposable. Hell technically i should say any car that goes on track at all even once, but hey, im wild. 7/3/2007 2:48:11 PM |

if you wanna drop that kinda money on a car that will likely see a lot of track time, there's no reason to consider anything other than a c6 z06.
