sherk is a weird guy to call
hes got so much stamina he can beat anyone, its amazing no one talks about his stamina and him pushing a feverish pace the entire fight like they talk about tito or hughes, but neither of them puch the kinda pace sherk does
i think hermes will be overwhelmed, but i would like to see him win the title, im not much of a sherk fan, cuz if sherk is gonna wanna take him down, i dont see hermes stoppin it 6/26/2007 10:46:51 PM |

Fickett isn't fighting. He pulled out due to injury.
My predictions:
Marquardt via TKO Florian via submission Rashad via decision Sherk via TKO Nogueira via whatever he wants, maybe he'll anaconda choke him again Bonnar via... wait, why is Mike Nickels getting to fight in the UFC again? Gurgel via KO Edgar via TKO 6/29/2007 12:37:56 AM |

hah i dont usually bash a fighter no matter how many fights theyve lost but mike nickels has go to be the worst windmillin son of a bitch fighter i have ever seen, stephan bonnar is above this fight man i hope he goes ot there and handles business in under a minute and enjoys the rest of his night
p.s. im glad to see bonnar back in action

^^ Bonnar got completely exposed against Rashad, he's just not athletic enough to do anything against a top tier LHW. He's a skilled fighter, but there are other guys out there with skills AND freakish athleticism. He'll never be much more than a stepping stone in the UFC, and unfortunately I think he'll be on his way out after another loss or two(hopefully not to Nickels though, who is absolutely terrible). 6/30/2007 9:38:22 PM |

i kind of agree with you
i have the same opinion of david louiseau, who to me just has crazy skill but doesnt have the strength or really the killer instinct to ever finish a fight or be threatening enough to dominate an entire fight, he had the elbow but thats really all...id say david has athleticism tho
bonnar would be a better coach than a fighter, but i do enjoy watching his fights, rashad just whipped him around and controlled him like u said 6/30/2007 9:42:35 PM |

Rashad has really come out and finally proven to most people that he's the real deal, yet for some reason I still question whether or not he's championship material. Would love to see him keep doing well though, he's a lot of fun to watch. 7/1/2007 12:56:03 AM |
ZomBCraw Suspended 6999 Posts user info edit post |
well there can only be one champion, and a few contenders
the question of championship materialism is something that is answered with time, i mean look at carter williams, he was championship material in his first K-1 now hes pretty much a bum strung out on cocaine and a shell of himself
id rather someone like rashad show solid progression and be called overrated gthan to start out fast and either wind up like carter williams, or get "nate quarry'd" before ever getting to hold on to a belt
im also of the opinion that not all fighters need to be champions, i hate how the ufc used to get rid of guys after they lose a fight or to, but now that they have the WEC thats not so bad since a fighter can opt to go fight there awhile in a competitive league and stay in the US AND get good publicity 7/1/2007 1:59:26 AM |

I am so sick and tired of idiot fans thinking every fight that goes to a decision is a shitty fight, EVERY fight on that card was exciting...Rashad v.s Tito to a lesser degree but I think it is a good fight Rashad seemed tentative but he tooled tito in the standup for the most part and on the ground tito took him down 3 times out of 10 attempts DUE TO rashads defensive clenches and underhooks
oh, and how many times did tito get swept? at least 3 times, lookey there, thats how many times he took rashad down, how many techniques did he land on rashad while he had hm on his back? i count zero. I wish rashad would have opened up more striking, he had tito licked and when rashad had top position he landed more striked than tito did the entire fight
tito is rollin down hill, his cardio looked kinda crappy, but to knock rashad he ddnt capitalize like he should have, but his cardio was better than bobblehead ortiz
back to you so called MMA fans, go watch pro wrestling, these fights were exciting wars with plenty of excellent offensive and defensive techniques...yea fuck you
Kenny florian looked SWEET, Anderson unfortunately beat nate but im proud of nate he had a plan and came to fight
Sherk looked completely unstoppable im not even sure Penn could beat him, he displayed amazing proficiency at all phases and a granite head taking 3 or 4 hard knees
Heath herring impressed me and did exactly what i wanted him to do, show why hes been a solid heavyweight and give noguiera a hell of a fight, was that one boring for you too? amazing escapes, reversals and good striking techniiques (but i hate that heath went back to his old stance in the second round, and that he didnt reall finish nog when he could)
honestly if you saw no interest in any of these fights and the way they took place, you arent a fan of mma you are a fan of WWE and bottom feeder toughman competitions, you dont appreciate skill that was displayed by all combatants 7/8/2007 2:05:43 AM |

He didn't just lay their and wait for a decision he pushed the pace got takedowns got position and worked. Not all fights can be a highlight reel KO (unless your name is Silva), but in the end a wins a win, and Sherk moves up b/c of that idk about top 5 but close to it. __________________" |

It's not that ground game is boring. It's that watching someone intentionally try for the win by decision (ala sylvia, arlovski recently) is bullshit. Some guys don't fight to finish, be it by submission, GnP, or knock out.
I didn't see the fights last night, so I don't know which ones fit that. 7/8/2007 12:34:26 PM |

i really enjoyed all the fights, especially the sherk-franca fight, except the one between tito and rashad. they hyped that one up and it was really the draw for the card. i thought it disappointed, especially ending up as a draw...that was the cherry on top. otherwise the fights were fantastic...and i agree with zomB, last night was a payperview that you would only enjoy thoroughly if you were a fan of actual mma. 7/8/2007 12:50:54 PM |

I'd love to see that fight. BJ Penn at 155 is a pretty amazing fighter. I kind of feel like he would have caught Sherk in something during those 5 rounds. There were definitely times the other guy could have capitalized. It would definitely be an awesome fight. Too bad BJ feels the need to compete at 170.7/8/2007 4:39:01 PM |

sorry about the consective postings guys, that was stupid
anyways, BJ Penn will catch sherk, unlike hermes bj is a technical striker and is sherk gets anything less than two legs in his TD attempt hell be subbed or controlled quickly
i think BJ will rock him standing and its gonna take alot to take bj down with sherk in a safe position
i dont mind sherks style as much as some people do, i kinda like it, its not like he just lays there
i also think people are being too hard on rashad, rashad showed he has better wrestling tools and in their breif exchanges showed more of a commitment to landing harder strikes
i also question why tito quit throwing leg kicks, he threw two SICK kicks that rashad felt and was completely removed from his stance 7/8/2007 10:01:57 PM |
Prawn Star All American 7643 Posts user info edit post |
^I thought Rashad was acting like a pussy, especially considering all the shit he talked. He kept dancing away instead of engaging.
Sean Sherk is a lot like Matt Hughes, only 15 lbs lighter. In their 2 fights, Hughes was only able to take BJ down once, and BJ quickly got out of it. People expecting Sherk to bring Penn down whenever he wants will be disappointed.
Sherk will have a good chance if it goes to 5 rounds because he's a cardio machine. But Penn will likely submit him before that happens.

i agree that rashad should have pushed the pace more, he would broke tito
but i disagree that the dancing is bad, he seems really hard to get a clean shot on and uses his entire body to swiftly dodge attacks, its well within his skills and athleticism to use that to great effect, think about how he used to only bob and weave, hes always used his hands that way though and he has set up some nice strikes in the past with the way he used his hands
i just wish hed have used it to move forward and break tito, i think with time and training its well in his ability to do so,and hell be really hard to hit, much like machida 7/8/2007 10:18:36 PM |

great ppv, with the exception of the tito/evans fight
that fight, in no way, should have been a draw....tito pushed the tempo of the fight the entire time....the only thing rashaad did was dance around and play the fence so when tito shot in, his back would be against the fence and it would brace him and help him defend...at least tito engaged, and even though it was half ass, had somewhat of a choke attempt (can't recall the round, 2nd maybe?)....if you paid attention, the cut that rashad opened up on tito was the result of a fingernail, so that damage is pretty much irrelevant...tito looked like he was going to die, and if he ahd been in better cardio shape, i think he would have won unamimously...
as for rashad, i was very unimpressed....he looked as if he were a welterweight tryin to stay away from a light hvywt....tito looked enormous compared to him....he had good defense, but IMO, he did not win that fight....not to continue knocking rashad, he is definitely up and coming, but if he thinks he can compete with the likes of rampage, hendo, wanderlei, shogun, chuck, etc., he is full of shit....i personally think (my opinion doesn't matter but i'll give it), that he needs to drop a wieght class [b]or two]...hell, sherk normally weighs ~180 and cuts to where he is....
and tito....wtf...i am beginning to call tito hollywood, b/c thats what it seems like he wants to be these days
sherk is ridiculous....if his neck weren't 30 inches, he woulda been choked out in the first 15 seconds, haha....all of those blows to the head scared the shit outta me....sean's so quick that as soon as he was impacted, he shoot in and exceute a shot so as not to be overtaken...i thoroughly enojoyed that fight... hermes is a bad mutha, and proved so in this fight.....i just hope penn can't submit sherk....should be a helluva battle
this card was called stacked for a reason....i was pleased
**just remembered**
the tito/rashad fight was a draw due to the "foul" tito committed.....i'm not 100% sure it happened, but i could swear rashad grabbed the fence a time or two as well....and also, how about that thumbnail that led to a cut under titos eye? no foul? fuck i just hate this fight ended like this....its tito's fault....if dana hadn't hated him so much, he would have won

saw the tito/evans fight today. I was somewhat unimpressed by both fighters. ^Tito grabbed the fence after being warned about it and having his hand slapped off. He also grabbed it a couple other times that were not called.
I think Rashad would do well to move down to 185 as well. Not only is it a weaker weight class, but he seems to be much smaller than most of the 205s. 7/9/2007 4:36:31 PM |
