I have 1GB in my 1.83 GHZ Duo Core Laptop Now running Vista. It seems like I need more RAM. How much would you bump it up? 7/2/2007 11:19:13 AM |

as much as you can afford. 2GB should be a big improvement already, though. you'll have to check what kind of modules are already in there, though. e.g. if you already have 2 512MB modules, then if you get a 1GB module, you'll have to replace an existing one, so you'll just have 1.5GB. So if you want 2GB, then you'll have to replace both 512MB with 1GB modules. Or just get one 2GB module, so you'll have 2.5GB total. 7/2/2007 11:21:34 AM |

Yeah, I'm angry at myself for ordering a 1GB card and not looking to see that they were using 2 512MB cards. I'm just trying to figure my best option. I think I'll return it paying the shipping cost and get a 2 GB card.

How old is the HP laptop? Do you have 2 gigs running on it? I'd upgrade to vista. One of my friends has an HP laptop they bought within the last 4 months, and vista ran fine on it. 7/2/2007 1:33:17 PM |

this is a brand new laptop basically. i got it in december, and it was one of the ones that had xp media center on it, and got a free home premium upgrade. the only thing is that i want 64 bit to make my chess programs run faster, but i might call ms to see if they will send me the 64 bit for free! never hurts to check! 7/2/2007 1:36:55 PM |

^well then vista should run fine. Once you install 64 bit vista you can have 128+ GB of ram for your chess programs! Kidding. You really want 64 bit for your chess programs? Not enough power on 32 bit?
