Ummm, Im sorry Wilbon, but no, she isn't. Not even close. Not only does America not care about tennis, we don't really care about women athletes. Please don't claim that Venus is one of the top 10, male or female athletes in the last 10 years. 7/5/2007 2:25:15 AM |

Tennis, we definitely DONT care about....dont hate on the Williams Sisters...because they rock at their sport, are multi-millionaires, go to celebrity parties, adn have the Teniss world at the beckon call-sounds like someone is a TAD bit jealous.... 7/5/2007 2:38:13 AM |

I'm not jealous at all. There are just about 20 other sport figures I would rank above her and her sister as top athletes in the last ten year. In Miami, I have been to many celeb parties. No need to bring that up cat. I am not from NC. I have actually lived a life. My parents most likely have more money than most people on here. But thats not the issue. Don't call me out on something you have no clue at all about. 7/5/2007 3:09:05 AM |

LOL, L. Tomlison ova Venus...I love football - college and pro...and I think LT will be one of the greatest RB in history, but right now...Venus is a better/proven athlete than him. When looking at professional career over the past 10 years.
Not saying she should be top 10 in last 10, but she is ahead of LT...lets be real.

If I can't Venus Williams, I can't Venus Williams. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about Venus Williams. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about Venus Williams. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about Venus Williams, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about Venus Williams. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game last it's my last but we're talking about Venus Williams man. How silly is that? Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about Venus Williams. We're talking about Venus Williams man. (laughter from the media crowd) We're talking about Venus Williams. We're talking about Venus Williams. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about Venus Williams. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about Venus Williams right now 7/5/2007 10:25:12 PM |

I see, so the fastest player ever to 100 TDs, the most player who has scored the most points in a season, the single season TD leader, and the best RB of his generation, and possibly the best player regardless of position in the last 10 years, is "less proven" than a woman who has 5 slam titles (she was dominant in 2000 and 2001, but has only been maybe top 5 since then)? Look, Venus is good, but she's not the best female tennis player of the last 10 years, let alone top 10 regardless of sport or gender.
Venus... psshhhhh, please. 7/6/2007 12:42:30 AM |

Sampras has:
More winnings Higher win % More titles More grand slams

Federer is only 25. Barring career-ending injuries, he will eventually crush Sampras in regards to total prize money, grand slam titles, and overall titles. Also, your math sucks...... Federer has the better winning percentage.7/6/2007 7:18:49 AM |

in all seriousness, the two have totally different ways of approaching a match
i wish there was a way to go back in time and see sampras's serve and volley in its prime against federer's all-around game... even if we perhaps already saw it (perhaps) to a lesser extent every time he went up against agassi7/6/2007 7:35:31 AM |

responding to the actually topic instead of all the side stuff, if you want to talk about top ten athletes ( just physical talent), then no she isn't, she is impressive, both her and Serena but not top 10 in the decade.
Now if you are talking about " sports people" ( physical talent, impact on the game on and off the court) a case could be made for her and her sister to be in the top ten maybe. I mean, people can't deny that she brought a lot of attention to women's tennis in the past decade to the media. She and here sister made tennis stars marketable to the public again, was one of the major advocates for women getting paid equally as men for their winnings ( which finally happened at Wimbledon this year) and shed the image to many minorities that tennis wasn't just something that rich white kids played. ( not ashamed to admit that how me and many of my friends saw it growing up and now follow it because i realized that it is an awesome sports that just didn't get the proper exposure) and has won her fair share of grand slams. Only minus i see currently that she and her sister are totally linked so you can't single either one of them out really.
I mean, LT is an awesome person, and an elite on the field, but you can't say that football would be less popular without him ( though he did help change fantasy football) and the same can be said for a couple others athletes out there that were great but their effects off the field or court weren't as pronouned. Heck, Ali and MJ, a beast of talent in their sports are more known globally for what they did out of the game ( Ali- political views, MJ- marketing) then what they did on the while playing. 7/7/2007 2:34:17 PM |
