unless they are desperate, expect to wait 3 months to hear anything, if you hear anything at all.

i've been told that state jobs take forever and a day when it comes to them getting back to you. i guess if you're not in a time crunch then its fine but if youre wanting a job by a certain date, i would either start applying very early on or look for something else.

It really depends on what department you're applying for. For both Wake & the State, they may setup an interview ~4-6 weeks after the deadline. Then it will take another 4-6 weeks until you hear anything. For some departments though, it can take way longer.

One job I applied for in October & interviewed for in December, didn't say anything until May, but that is the SBI for you. I also applied for a forensics job in Wake County, with similar timing.

For most jobs, expect 2.5-3 months (from aplication deadline) until you actually are hired. It can take longer though.

Well, I work for the State and got my job because I was the temp. in the position while they were trying to figure out which person to hire (personality vs. skill set). Turns out, I had both and got the job. This also happened to two other friends of mine. So get in as a temp., and you're more likely to hear something sooner.

Work for WCPSS (not a teacher), 1st interview was early May. They waited until the end of May for 2nd, and didnt offer the job until mid-June...I started @ the end of June.

The timeframe on my state job was far less than what others here are saying. I am working for a small school system, so its not the massive beast that Wake County is. However I applied for the job on Wednesday, got interviewed the next day and was hired on Friday. Now to be fair I did apply towards the end of their hiring timeframe so they may have already interviewed the other candidates (I believe at least a half dozen applied, but none were nearly as qualified as me) but my state hiring process was a breeze compared to 99% of the other people who had gotten a gov't job.
