Here's the story.
I teach at a high school and we have deep freeze on our computers. This programs allows users to manipulate settings and use software but will revert to previous settings after each reboot. Great program for sneaky 9th graders. Anyhow I have all my documents/files saved on the thaw space [T:] on the harddrive. (actually even though it is given it's on drive letter I don't think its a separate partition). I went to school today w/ my new 300+gb external drive to do a backup. Well whoop-dy-freaking-do, our IT department has already visited my classroom and the thaw space is EMPTY. FARK!! I called one of the techs and she said they updated deepfreeze from version 5 to 6 and uninstalled 5 then installed 6 and she thought the files would transfer but they did not. I do have a backup of my files but it is 8-9 months old. So all my files for most of this year are gone.
Now the big question.
How can I recover these files?

call IT and tell them your problem (it sounds like your problem is their fault)
in the meantime, do not use your computer, as it will reduce the chances of them being able to recover your files

the fault is always gonna come on me because I didn't have a current backup. I've called and she tried something remotely but pretty much sad she's sad and I'm SOL. The only way I can think to get all/part/or some of these files back is a recovery program. 7/9/2007 4:31:47 PM |

step 1) power off the computer, do not turn it off again until this is resolved step 2) bitch at your it staff for being incompetent step 3) have someone run a file recovery program on that hard drive. they'll probably pull the hard drive out of your pc and put it into another computer.

if the company/school failed to notify you that this was going on, and that it could potentially cause data loss they are at fault and you could consider forcing them to pay for it to be professionally recovered 7/9/2007 6:05:15 PM |
