Did anyone actually have a decent speaker for graduation at NCSU? We seem to have quite the list of undistinguished figures/orators. List your year and review of the speaker.

I was 2004, graduation speaker was a General, one of Tom Stafford's college buddies IIRC. Aside from accoustical problems on the floor, the speech itself was not particularly good and fairly cliche-filled and impersonal. Graduation ran long anyway, with 95% of the time being spent honoring MA Fox instead of the graduates (she had accepted the position in California), so I was eager to get out of there anyway.

At least we didn't have lazy-eye...BooYeah!

last year was some scientist that I couldn't understand a single word while on the floor

I just kept thinking to myself the whole time I should have stayed in bed

Due to the acoustics in the ESA/RBC Center, I couldn't hear a damned thing anyone said (spring 2004). It was impossible to make out what any of the speakers were saying.

I had the same experience. I couldn't hear my grad speaker, and for the life of me, I can't remember who he was.

Is it true that Donahue went on and on during his speech about his show getting canceled?

Yeah, Phil Donahue was my year, 2003. What a disaster that was. Reds were booing him from the crowd, others were yelling insults at him....it was a banner day for NCSU.
