How in the world did ECU get all 12 games televised?
I read about this on an NC-STATE blog: http://ncstateandstuff.blogspot.com/2007/07/ecu-gets-all-12-games-on-tv.html
I didn't know if it was true so I google'd it. http://ecupirates.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/ecu-m-footbl-sched.html
As of now STATE only has 3 football games planned to be televised. I know there will be more but I doubt we will have all 12 on TV. http://www.gopack.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=9200&KEY=&SPID=3730&SPSID=41953
yeah i'm kind of pissed. 7/18/2007 12:12:22 PM |

Atleast we are on the October 10th game....
Most of those games are on WITN 17 which is based in Washington and covers mainly the Eastern part of NC (where most ECU fans live)....smart move for ECU, IMO

NCSU has never been able to work out local coverage... kinda sad actually...
i guess it wouldn't be considered "big league" enough... that or it's a result of the acc's tv contracts... 7/18/2007 12:19:19 PM |

I wouldn't mind seeing some ECU games on tv every now and then (as long as it doesn't interefere with NCSU)....growing up, I only saw them play on tv every once and a while like against us or Miami or something... 7/18/2007 12:25:31 PM |

Its part of the ACC TV contract. If ABC/ESPN* or JP doesnt carry the game, its not on TV. I think there may be some kind of exception though that allowed the two State-UNC games a few years ago to be on TV, or that may have been a different contract. The schools shouldnt have allowed this to happen, though, as it doesnt help anyone but ABC/ESPN. If a local broadcaster could broadcast an otherwise untelevised game, it would be more revenue for those schools and the league.
That being said, I doubt any of our local stations would have the balls to risk broadcasting one teams game and be perceived as "the NC State channel" or "the UNC channel." 7/18/2007 12:27:59 PM |

^that is the one advantage that ECU has....there are no other major teams within 70 miles of them so the nearest tv station would benefit from having ECU games 7/18/2007 12:42:12 PM |

NO ACC TEAM has all of their games televised before the season starts. That's what happens when you have primary and secondary broadcast rights contracts instead of just putting them on CSTV or local TV. 7/18/2007 12:42:47 PM |

I don't believe there is a blackout of broadcasting beyond JP and ABC/ESPN. The problem lies in that JP and ABC/ESPN don't know what games they are definitely going to show until its too late for anyone to put together a backup broadcast plan.
Oh, and State is going to get screwed by ESPN because they are trying to force the hand of TWC. We will have a ton of games on ESPN360 and other obscurities because TWC does not subscribe to that ESPN service and we are a major market. This is the same thing that ESPN did to the Wisconsin market with Badger games. 7/18/2007 12:45:58 PM |

^^^^^^C-USA has a contract with ESPN as well, as the West Virginia game at ECU was on ESPN2 last year. Im fairly certain there have been a lot of other C-USA games on ESPN as well, including the title game.
I dont know if Id go as far as to say screwed by ESPN...I mean, its not like either of those games were going to see broadcast TV anyhow...same for the majority of games that made it onto ESPNU. ESPNU/ESPN360 > no TV. And besides, there are ways to get to the ESPN360 broadcast even if you have Roadrunner.
Given that a lot of the equipment is already in the stadiums (cameras specifically), and you can kind of look at the schedule and have a general idea of which games will be on TV, you could put together a local TV station quality broadcast, standard def of course, within a weeks time, given that you already had a plan in place for carrying that game. 7/18/2007 1:41:07 PM |
