Components: Turbolink ATX 500W MSI P6N-SLI LGA 775 2x 1GB Patriot DDR2-800 E6600 w/ Arctic Freezer 7 8800GTS 320MB SATA HD & IDE DVD
Problem: None of the components are turning on. When I press the switch, the fans spin for a split second. No other components activate, and the only other activity I see is an LED next to CMOS battery glowing. (Mobo is getting power)
Troubleshooting steps: -Swapped PSU's, both of them yield same behavior. Also, PSU just came out of another box, so its good. -Removed RAM, Video Card; disconnected drives and front panel devices and tried powering on. Still no change. -I thought I might've connected the power switch lead to the wrong pins, but after consulting the manual, it seems to be correct. -I want to say the motherboard is dead, but it is getting power, as the CPU fan spins.
I can't figure out what else could possibly be wrong. What else should I check? I will also go ahead and mention that the RAM that I have is not one of the motherboard's "recommended" models, but i highly doubt that would be the cause to this problem.

^What he said.
You might have to remove the motherboard completely from the case and make sure there isn't something under it that is shorting it out. Before you do that though, try just kinda jiggling the main PSU power header or unplugging and leaving it out for a while before plugging it back in. 7/20/2007 5:09:55 PM |
