Okay, so I have my own website with email addresses. My main email address is getting bogged down with SPAM and I am trying to figure out how best to deal with it. Would it make any difference if I deleted the email address and waited a few hours before creating it again (with the same name)? I only ask this because my address right now is my first name @ my last name . com, so it's pretty simple for people to remember, and I'm not sure what I would change it to if I had to.

Any ideas on the solution?

you need to setup another catchall address.

most domain hosts (not sure about godaddy) forward all email to a catchall account if it cant be delivered to a certain address. Since yours is probably the only one, any email sent to @domain.com is getting pushed to you.

setup spam@domain.com and set it in your control panel to be the default or catchall address

i had the same problem. i was getting a lot of spam sent to "admin@mydomainname.com" ... the answer is (probably) best dealt with by Noen's suggestion.

go into your control panel (or whatever its called, where you configure your account via a web portal) and make sure you have another email address.

you should already have "admin@yourlastname.com" (or similar) ... if you dont, then create one. then make sure all other email gets "pushed" to your "admin@" or "webmaster@" or "spam@" or whatever address you want to use.

the other thing you should do is use Thunderbird email handler to manage your email. it has adaptive spam/junk filtering that is awesome.

all my spam goes to one folder and i can look at it if i want. i never get anything sent to spam by accident. so i dont even bother looking anymore, really. i just delete it every so often. never bothered by spam again.

I've had an admin account as the "catchall" as long as I've had my own account, and the admin account has no spam in it.

And I use thunderbird. i just messed around with the adaptive filter settings of TB, so we'll see how that goes.

really, either set up Google Apps for your Domain, which will take care of all your email handling for you, including spam filtering, and offers you a gmail-like interface for your domain email users.
or make a GMail account and either forward all your mail to gmail, or use Gmails POP service to pull in your domains email, then use the Gmail interface, or download it to TB or Outlook or whatever from Gmail

^^ it sounds like you've been too careless with your primary address, and now its on a number of distribution lists.

not much you can do about that.

except learn to use your filters and junk mail setttings. start by flagging all junk mail as junk, and also set the filters for the domains of all the places who send you spam.

and in the future, quit spreading your primary address around the internet. use a secondary (webmail) account to do your forum posting and warez downloading ;-P
