anyone else notice the update overnight?
i like the new percentage of disc space used displayed right on the list menu (as opposed to going to the channel)
other than that, it seems a little quicker but it's still ugly and i haven't had it long enough to tell me "SET TOP WAS UNABLE TO RECORD PROGRAM" 8/22/2007 7:59:20 PM |

Still blowing ass to this day
I love the fact that I have to set up seperate recordings for series if they play it on different channels
IE
I want it to record all the scrubs episodes
Then i have to have it record on nbc or abc or whatever
and then setup another one to record on comedy central

Yeah, this thing no more or less a piece of shit than any of TWC's other boxes. I've had to reset it twice because it just quit being able to schedule new recordings. 8/23/2007 12:09:10 PM |

so.... is TWC's response to the requirement that they support cable cards just to make their cable card support so shitty (albeit functional, technically) that you give up and use their boxes instead? 8/23/2007 12:39:43 PM |
xplosivo All American 1966 Posts user info edit post |
I just returned a TivoHD last night because the cablecard support was so bad. TWC will not give out multi-stream cards to people because they are only putting them in the new TWC boxes. Therefore you get single stream Scientific Atlanta cards that SUCK. The pixelation was so bad that it wasn't worth dealing with. TWC is following the letter of the FCC law but man are they not following the spirit. 8/23/2007 2:55:21 PM |

I'm liking how me SA 8300HD doesn't seem to record ANYTHING. No error messages or anything. It just doesn't record. Hoping they refund my "DVR" fee for the month considering I basically have an oversized non-dvr cable box. 9/8/2007 7:56:07 PM |

Anyone know how to remove the gray bars on 4:3 channels off the SA 8300HD?
I swear holding info/guide for a few seconds while the box was off used to launch setup where you could make them black, modify outputs, etc....but on the box we just got it seems that's been disabled 9/9/2007 7:42:55 AM |

another bad thing- they're still "working" on full HDMI support
some highlights from a general FAQ about it:
Quote : | "May I shrink the size of the banner that interferes with the news/stock price crawl? The size of the banner cannot be changed.
May I change the color scheme of the TWC Navigator™? The color scheme may not be changed.
Where is my TWC Navigator™ Favorite List (FAV)? There is no list in this version of the Navigator™. Instead, each program or channel designated as a favorite is marked by a star in the Guide listing. The star will also appear in the upper left corner of the screen when you are tuned to that program.
The Navigator™ seems slower. Can I make it go faster? The speed of the Navigator may seem slower, but will vary based on the specific set top box model you have and sometimes your television. TWC is committed to improving this issue and is constantly working on engineering solutions.
How can I access the amount of space left on my DVR? This version of the TWC Navigator™ does not provide an alert that shows the amount space left on your DVR. The Recording Log will let you know that the show failed to record due to lack of available space. You will then need to delete some shows to make space for new recordings.
Do I have control over setting program recording priorities? No. The DVR gives highest priority to the most current request made, which usually means that requests are filled as they are made. To make sure that a particular program records in the event of a tuner conflict, delete any old requests for that program and re-submit a request. This will make it your “most recent request” and make it the highest priority request, ensuring it is recorded first.
How do I verify my program will be recorded? Press LIST button on the remote to access the SHOW LIST screen. Choose the SCHEDULED RECORDINGS list. Your choice will show up in red.
How do I know if there is a conflict? Press LIST button on the remote to access the SHOW LIST screen. Choose the SCHEDULED RECORDINGS list. Your choice will be in blue with the RECORD ICON with a line through it indicating the show will not be recorded. SELECT the program and you will be given options to resolve the conflict.
How does the TWC Navigator™ resolve recording conflicts? If there is a conflict at the time a recording is scheduled, and you do not have chance to resolve the conflict before the programs begin, the TWC Navigator™ will make a decision to record a program based on the these priorities:
Pay Per View event On Demand selection Any series or program scheduled in the same time slot. A show that was scheduled but not recorded will display in the RECORDING LOG. A list of options may appear to allow you to resolve the conflict before the show airs." |
they did, however, slightly shrink the info banner about a quarter and now a numerical percentage displays the space left after the last update.

fucking retarded
on a lighter note, however: after about an hour on the phone with various CSRs and supervisors, i convinced them to give me an M-card, basically because i threatened to cancel my service. they wouldn't just let me have it, they had to schedule a truck roll, which was retarded. twc dude came out and had no clue what he was doing, so i did everything for him. i love my series3 tivo. i've heard a lot of people having problems with the TiVoHD.9/9/2007 10:05:15 AM |
nothing22 All American 21537 Posts user info edit post |
yeah unfortunately i don't know anything about M-card. can you explain the benefits? 9/9/2007 11:26:44 AM |
evan All American 27701 Posts user info edit post |
m-card = multi-channel
the tivo series3/tivoHD units seem to have a lot of pixellation problems with the card in the second cablecard slot. if you have an m-card in the first slot, though, you don't need another card, as the m-card can authorize channels for both tuners.
so, m-card > 2 s-cards. also, m-cards support SDV, although tivo doesn't.... yet. 9/9/2007 12:08:05 PM |

Heres a few commands to have in your arsenal for the 8300HDC...
To preform a hard reboot... Press and hold on the front panel the VOLUME UP AND DOWN, while pressing these two buttons press the INFO button. Your box will take 5 minutes to reboot and maybe this will solve your problems.
To access the diagnostics screen... Either from the remote or faceplate press and hold the SELECT button for 5-10 seconds until the mail indicator light flashes on the front panel. Then press the CHANNEL DOWN button. The diagnotic screen will appear on top of your existing channel being viewed.
Enjoy! 9/19/2007 11:21:48 AM |

Anyone know if they changed the reboot command? I'm on my 3rd SA8300HDC in about 2 weeks and it's stopped recording shows just like the others. The volume up/down then info command doesn't seem to do anything. I'd rather not unplug it then replug it in because that's when the others started to really degrade to the point where even watching live tv wasn't an option. 10/2/2007 7:11:51 PM |

Apparently all 8300HDCs were unable to record last week sometime I had a cable op to come out to replace it with an old one, he brought me a broken box and said "It's probably better to just keep the HDC it's working now" (which it was) but it is still slow as dog shit and I want money back!!! Grrrr. To top it off they want $43 to install a fucking cable card!! How fucking hard is it to take the card out of its case, stick it in the cable card slot, go to the info screen for it, and call the operator to tell them the MAC address?? I don't want to pay $43, but I do want to be able to record 3 channels in HD at once... 10/3/2007 2:36:39 PM |

I'm on my third 8300HDC right now. However, I've had this once since September and I've had very limited problems with it. The first couple would have all sorts of recording issues and random reboots/lockups. This one has been pretty good though. Knock on wood, hope it keeps up. I would try forcing a firmware update on it if you're having trouble. Apparently they've been pushing down updates on these things that have been slowly improving them, and the most recent versions are fairly stable. 11/25/2007 3:22:31 PM |

Unplug it and leave it unplugged for a couple minutes then plug it back in while holding down the power button on the unit. Keep the power button held down for about 15 seconds or until "boot" disappears from the display. The other option would be to unplug everything from it and leave it unplugged for a full day. I got most of this stuff from this thread.

for the cable companies, that is actually pretty fucking hard. their tech guys don't know a damned thing about cable cards, so I guess they just assume the customer doesn't, either.11/25/2007 6:01:41 PM |
