Just found out tonight that I was number 3 in michelin tire sales in the company last month.. so they're sending me to the porsche driving experience in alabama as a reward. They're paying for the airplane, hotel, and porsche stuff.

i could say the same, but without figures or statistics to back it up youre just blowing smoke up our asses. which as a tire salesman, i am sure you are good at. i know, i used to sell tires for a big corporation too before i wised up and went to do something that actually made me happy.

i could never upsell stuff when i worked at a shop unless i thought they needed it.

Well with tires you pay for what you get.. so its not like i'm selling people things they don't really need - i'm just selling them a better product. Costs more up front but it pays for itsself... considering I get atleast one customer a week who has a michelin LTX or Cross Terrain SUV with 80K+ miles on the tires. I do not cheat customers because I was raised to be ethical.

And this isn't the best job, not what i'm going to do for the rest of my life (although the service managers make close to and even into 6 figures.. store managers make 150k+ in a good store)... it pays the bills. I'm putting myself through school so it's what I need.


Also, I would like to see said tire with "lots of threads left"

working at a shop was fun and not very stressful, i was actually considering doing it long term at one point. looking back, i am glad i moved on. but it sure payed the bills pretty good and some moments were priceless. like putting lambourghini doors on a saaab. with the lift. but im digressing here. i'll take a free ticket to a racetrack and a keys to a porche anyday.

That's not bad considering they only come with 10/32". The PS2 is my favorite performance tire that is still streetable. 512's are OK but michelin reigns supreme! Why don't you like michelin? They make some amazing tires. I hate france and I say this

Actually my job is very, very stressful - but I think that's why I like it. For some reason I tend to put myself in high stress situations all the time. We run a very very very busy store and we have angry customers yelling at us all the time (remember, i'm the front man). 90% of the people who go to a shop are already pissed off because their car is broken / needs money - i'm the face of their demise. I think the reason i'm successful is i'm very customer service oriented and I will do whatever it takes to make the customer happy. No matter what though.. atleast 3 days out of the week I go home pissed off at stupid customers and am forced to drink

you just have to tune yoself to be nice while ignoring the assholes. remeber assholes =/= money for the shop. assholes = free warranty labor and bad employee morale.

that said, fucking up on a 100-1000 dollar deal on a daily basis is possibly stressful.

fucking up on a 10,000-100,000 dollar job is a lot more so.

but it's also a lot more rewarding if you do it right and everybody is happy.
