I'm looking for a projector for the money, like most of you I'm not made of money and can't afford a $3,000 projector. I'm looking for something in the $500-$1000 range. I need something that I can connect a TW cable box to, so I can watch some football. I'll mostly be watching movies, etc on it. I have a nice toshiba Ill still use most of the time for regular tv, but I'd really like the huge screen for some movies.
I already have a good surround setup, and im planning on just painted the wall with the screen paint.
I dont know much about them other than I know i want atleast 2000 Lumens so i can see it without having it pitch black.
What are some good brands to look for, and other general info?
Also if you could post some links from slickdeals, etc. that you would reccomend that would be appreciated.

lumen ratiings are pretty much worthless when looking for a projector. A high lumen rating generally means its going to have terrible contrast ratios. 800-1500 lumens is normal for a home theatre projector.

What is a minimum contrast ratio i should look for? It seems like they go from 400-10,000.

id say bare minimum would be like 1500:1, 2 or 3000:1 would be a better starting point though.

So the one I picked out so far, with 2300 Lumens, and a contrast of 2200:1 seems fairly good to me. I'll I'm him.

Lets resurrect this thread ...

I am looking for an HD projector, best bang for the buck. What things are important in regards to 1080i/p/60 or the other settings.... I really dont know what kind of difference they will make.

I want a 100" screen setup, and something that will still look bright enough during the day (although there is only 1 window in the room that it is going in).

I would prefer not to spend more than 1500 on it.

In order of good (visually):
0) if you have a dark room, tons of space, and dont mind 10 year old+ electronics = 8" CRT.
1) if you see rainbows and have money = D-ILA/SXRD or 3-chip DLP
2) if you dont see rainbows and dont have money = DLP
3) if you see rainbows and dont have money = LCD

Are those all types of Projectors?? I really am not a audio/video guru by any means. HMMM ... what to you consider "have money"
