so my father in law wants to buy a new computer (desktop). he want to use it for copying DVDs (backups of his own collection, of course), making digital home videos from old VHS videos, photo editing and stuff like that. He'll want a nice monitor thats large enough to comfortably watch DVDs. he'll also probably play some games, but hes not a hardcore gamer. he owns an original XBox console and a bunch of sports games... thats pretty much it.
what would you recommend for him, if his price range is around $1000, give or take? 8/23/2007 3:14:45 AM |

get a dell. you can't match their deals, especially since the pops wants a nice monitor.
go here: http://bensbargains.net/ and type in "dimension" or "inspiron" into the search pane on the right hand side to see current/past deals. also go to dells site and show the deals (small business).
you can compare those deals to the local ones here: http://salescircular.com/nc/computer/comonp.shtml
but i'd just get a dell.] 8/23/2007 9:19:53 AM |

Yeah, I hate to sound like an echo, but if you check bensbargains and slick deals you'll find about once a month you'll be able to get a Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 320GB HD, and a 20in widescreen monitor from dell for about $650. Anything else you add on (bigger HDD, more RAM, bigger monitor, longer warranty) would just be gravy.
http://bensbargains.net/deal/39275/ is the lastest coupon deal I see over on bens. 8/23/2007 9:34:05 AM |

Yeah, I am actually going to cash in on that bargain I think. ^ 650 is pretty good when you consider you are getting a 20 inch widescreen monitor and windows vista. 8/23/2007 11:41:39 AM |
