What type of art do you guys hang up at your place? Be specific (genre, artist, where you purchased/obtained it). I've got alot of blank walls in my new pad, and I'd like to start moving past movie posters and prints. I'd try to keep your own creations to the Art Show thread unless it just happens to fit the conversation. This thread is for people who have trouble sorting through all the crap on ebay, etc. If you know of local shows, please post them.

there is a booth at the farmers market and one at the flea market at the fairgrounds that sell oil paintings

it's the first week of school...generic college posters USA has set up stands around campus

dude, if you dont really know anything about art or what you might be into, go to art.com. you can actually find some pretty cool stuff. and its all broken down into different categories and whatnot

How much are you looking to spend on stuff? For a budget, places like Home Goods (the one in Brier Creek is the one I've been to) and sometimes Michael's (some of their stuff is way overpriced, but some of it is pretty cheap) are good. They don't have the same selection as the internet, but I've found some pretty good stuff there.

We have a big dual spheres world map that we got at Bombay that we like a lot. And some Ansel Adams-style nature shots if you like black and white photography, which you can get anywhere. I just got a large Anatole Krasnyansky print on a cruise that's kind of fun, but I don't know if a lot of other people would like it. And we found a cool black and white pic of the Bellagio fountains at night, I think at Home Goods. The rest is just random stuff, like we have a few landscapey paintings we bought in Haiti.

Those kits are awesome. I just googled for gear clock and apparently there's a lot of those sorts of things out there.

Man, that little serpentine clock is neat though. If I ever get some money I wanna throw away...

Unless you've got some serious theme/composition/scheme in mind, there's no reason to rush to purchase art.

People who take down their Bob Marley poster the day they get a "real job" and replace it with some "grown-up" art are silly, I think.

Keep your eyes open, and when you see something that appeals to you and that you can afford, maybe think about it for a while and buy it. Over the years, your collection will come together well.

not to turn this into a plug, but deviantart has some really great stuff for sale that, unlike dali or kandinsky, you won't see on everyone else's wall too

I second the Home Goods at Brier Creek. Its the TJ Maxx home super store. They have really good deals on art.

I second Michael's. They have coupons they send out in the mail and in the paper that are 40% (sometimes 50% around holidays) off a single non-sale item. You can get some decent art work there.

Perhaps, the title and description is misleading, but the intent of this thread is really to show what YOU are into, in the hopes that other users might become interested in the same material. I get overwhelmed with the choices at art.com, but when a friend introduces me to a genre or artist, the search becomes alot more focused and fun. For example, I've been looking at some Outsider Art recently, and I would have probably never found that on art.com (pics to come). The Alex Grey website, DeviantArt, and the gear clocks are all great examples.

my wife is in grad school for Arts Administration (aka gallery management) so she meets a lot of artists. pretty much all of our art comes from people she meets
