The REAL Last GSS HOUSE Show Ever !!!! - Saturday Sept. 8th http://www.myspace.com/gsshouse
Cloak/Dagger (Richmond, VA) http://www.myspace.com/wearecloakdagger Cloak/Dagger's new album We Are comes out September 11th on Jade Tree. Their songs sound like they have been wound up as tight as possible over a very long time and then released in a sudden explosion of energy and clenched fists and amps cranked to eleven. Super catchy and hard-driving. Reviews often compare them to Hot Snakes and Black Flag. You can pre-order the new LP and get a free CLOAK/DAGGER T-shirt at: http://merchnow.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=JT&Product_Code=CLKDDEAL00-DL&Category_Code=MUSIC&Product_Count=0
Cola Freaks (all the way from Denmark) http://www.myspace.com/colafreaks Here's a review about their new 7": "WOW! Probably the strongest debut single ever released by a Danish punk band! Four short tracks of pure brilliant KBD/early Wipers punk sung in Danish. It's simple and catchy music which should appeal to a lotta people both into new and vintage punkrock, although the songs are vastly rougher and faster live. The name is from an old song by Lost Kids, one of the earliest Danish punk acts, and Cola Freaks isn't that far from their sound. The band features members of the sadly defunct Tæve, Rotter, Snöwball, Don & The Johns and other Aarhus bands. In August and September the boys are on a huge US tour through 39 states (!) which is pretty unheard of for a Danish underground act barely 8 months old!" You can order it locally from Sorry State Records in Durham. http://www.deepfrybonanza.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=249
Double Negative (Raleigh, Raleigh, Raleigh) http://www.myspace.com/thedoublenegative Double Negative kicks off a fall tour supporting their "Wonderful and Frightening World..." LP, which gets raves in the latest issues of MRR and Decibel Magazine. Here's a review from the Australian zine, Cows And Beer: "Candidate for best LP of 2007? Where the hell did these guys come from? A rollingly static and intense LP that is astoundingly original and creative while staying hardcore punk. How much rage can you take? The singer KC rants and shreiks like a mental patient and I get the impression he's a big Burroughs fan by the lyrics, definetely not your usual punk fare. This is hardcore grown up - the outsider teen turned into the sullen and isolated adult. The art has this cool metallic sheen like the side of a Soviet era sattelite or something. An essential LP." Schoolkids on Hillsborough St. should have these in stock, if not you can order it from Sorry State here: http://www.deepfrybonanza.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=120
Gorman Street Sluts (shocking hometown PUNK) http://www.myspace.com/piratepunks Fast, catchy, fist-pumping punk from around the way. Reuniting for a final drunken brawl at their namesake venue. Badass!
The Obtruders (Raleigh ditch shredders) http://www.myspace.com/theobtruders1 A bunch of teenagers obsessed with skateboarding, pizza and 80s hardcore. Daniel from Cross Laws recorded their demo a few weeks back and it turned out so well he couldn't resist releasing it on Sorry State. Blistering punk that brings to mind Nardcore greats like Dr. Know, Scared Straight and Ill Repute.
