It'll only really help confirm if something's seriously wrong. If you shut off all filesharing etc. and are getting dialup speeds, then you know something is fucked up. Of course, if you're getting dialup speeds you should realize something's wrong anyways. If everything's working properly, there's far too many limiting factors besides your connection for the speed quoted to be truly useful.

TESTED USING RECOMMENDED PYRAMID!

From our shitty att T1's

The road runner business class connection is super bad ass most of the time, but right now everything past new york is going on level3 which is just the worst ever.

dslreports speedtests are just a shitty metric. They typically don't mean crap if you have a fast connection (i.e. on a campus). They are designed for home broadband types of connections. The faster your connection, the less accurate they are. You also have to factor in the distance away from you the server is located and all the ISPs in between.

Not only that, but they are mostly eye candy with pretty little graphics that move showing you the dial go up and down. Try finding one as close to you as possible like that NDT link above (assuming you are in NC)

Shitty metrics, but this:

really makes me wish we had comcast here instead.

Oook, so I was getting about 6.5 mbit/s this afternoon and now I'm getting about 300 kbit/s. Looks like TWC has made it clear that after the promotional "free upgrade" to RR Turbo I will be selecting the regular roadrunner option. They don't even have enough fucking capacity to handle the appartment complex's after work traffic.

As I said earlier, these tools are good at confirming that something is fucked up at least. Same drop in speed with 3 different routers wireless or switch side. Yay.

Anyone have some quick suggestions for how to tell if your router's being attacked? I'm not getting anything generated in my logs.
