I use it in high point.. I've had faster broadband but for what it is, it is pretty damn good and has worked well for me. I got some kind of promotion so first 6 months was ridiculously cheap, look into it

It's great for a casual internet user who might watch an occasional movie or download a few songs now and again ... but ...

It's nothing like a cable connection, and is unreliable if you're looking for a constant high-speed connection. Give it a whirl, see if it's for you. But if you do lots of downloading and/or gaming, it's probably not.

agreed.

check the signal strength in your area...that will probably let you know what quality of service you can expect. but yeah, its not as good as cable and dsl when it comes to performance

In Raleigh, call up Time Warner and get cable internet. DSL is ok too, but YMMV. If you're just looking to game and don't expect to download much, you can get the cheaper cable internet service from them and be fine. However, if you plan on downloading lots, just cough up the cash, that's all you can do around here.

Of course, usually TWC is running a deal for a reduced rate for the first 6 months or so. Definitely ask for it.

roadrunner lite (768Kbps) is $25/mo. they have had a promotion recently where its $20/mo for the first 6 or 12 months i think. its not fast but its good for web browsing and generally reliable.

i'm in SW Raleigh, and Clearwire basically works exactly as advertised for me. I got the 1.5Mbps/256kbps package. Even when the modem shows 1 of 5 bars for signal strength, I still get the full 1.5Mb. I generally get 3-4 bars though. I do the occasional torrent, and it's not super speedy, but it comes down fine.
I didn't really realize exactly how slow 256kbps-up actually is.... if you're managing a website or uploading a photo gallery, it's pretty damned slow. To their credit, I consistently get the 256kb as advertised, but that's just a pretty low bandwidth.

so, if you are satisfied with the packages they offer and you can get a signal, then you should be happy.

having said all that, i really hope they capitalize on all the wi-max bandwidth they bought with Sprint a few months ago.
