i'm looking to get a small (~2 man) pref 3 or 4 season tent for back packing so the smaller and lighter the better. don't wanna spend a ton of $$$ thats why i'm here and not at REI or GOP.

You might want to check Dicks Sporting Goods at Crossroads. They had a ton of stuff 50% off. I picked up a three season Mountain Hardware sleeping bag for $20 today.

I don't know how often you camp, but if you are interested in renting a tent the outdoor storehouse on campus rents them very cheap

^Unless you're one of the first people there, those sales are pretty much a waste of time. I've gotten some good deals at them when I showed up early, but there's nothing but broken crap if you go later.

^^ Membership in the REI co-op is not free. It's $15.

I bought a tent at the garage sale last year. I would recommend hitting the garage sale at Southpoint instead of Cary and getting there about 45 minutes to an hour early. They let in groups of about 20 people at a time and you definitely want to be in the first group if possible. If you see something you might want just grab it and sort it all out later. I just snagged about four 3-person tents and took them to the corner to see which one I wanted. If you don't grab it it'll be gone.

^^ i went by the north hills rei garage sale today and snagged some Salomon XA Pro trail running shoes. these things are $125 msrp but i got them for $19 bucks. They're brand new too, still had the original tags and stickers, the person just returned them because they realized they didn't like the color. They had a bunch of tents there too, my friend got a Marmot two man, and they had a sweet MSR one man. Definitely hitting up the cary garage sale next week. Getting there an hour to an hour and a half early is a must.

^ Yeah, I paid about $70 for a REI Taj 3 tent which goes for about $230 new. It was in brand new condition and everything was in the bag. The tag said "tried to set up, but was too difficult" or something like that. It seemed easy enough to me.
