I have been using dual 19inch monitors for a while now and one of them burnt out.

Rather than buy another 19inch, I was thinking about getting something larger and just using 1 monitor as an office monitor / tv / xbox360 setup.

My questions are:

What would be too big, considering it will most likely be sitting on my desk in front of me?
Plasma / LCD?
Should i look for a Monitor or TV with pc inputs?
Suggestions?

are you getting rid of a 2 monitor setup because you rarely utilized both of them at the same time - there are definite benefits to having 2 smaller (within reason) monitors as opposed to 1 large one

is your computer in the same spot as where you want your tv/xbox

i love having 2monitors, but I was thinking I could get the same effect with 1 large monitor and also use it for something else...

this will be a secondary TV for my office, so yea i can hook whatever up to it, and it will also be in view of my office couch.

do you have a budget? how far away would you be sitting from the screen when you are using the PC?

under 1500 is my budget, preferably way under.

Its a pretty large desk so id say 2-3 feet away.

Could get a 24" or a 30". Just make sure your video card can run those high resoultions. Can't you just run the newer large one, and still have the 19" too?

at $1300 wouldn't you be better off w/ a 42" 1080p LCD HDTV?

The resolution of an HDTV does not match the resolution of that 30" LCD

but an LCD doesn't have a TV tuner and he mentioned the use of a TV, so you get a smaller screen (granted larger resolution) but still physically smaller and no HDTV

clearly though i'd go with the 30" LCD, just being a devil's advocate... i mean a good HDTV tuner for a PC only costs ~$100

Well yea ... ok so the LCD only has a DVI input, don't get it if you want to connect your TV or Xbox to it ... UNLESS, you get a video card with video-input ... then it's no big deal

Right, or get an HDTV tuner...

^Or get a dvi to hdmi cable. Why would you connect a tv to an lcd? You can hook an hdtv up to a video card with a dvi/hdmi cable.

^^yeah i'd have a 30" inch lcd anyday over a bigger HDTV. You'll be getting 2560 by 1600 with the 30", but only 1920 by 1080 with that 42". It all depends on what you're doing though. I wouldn't get an HDTV as your primary computer monitor.

i dunno, looking at prices, i'm wondering why not got dual 24"'s over a single 30", same price basically
