so i dont do the console game stuff really. i have a ps2 and a few games i bought at blockbuster just cause... but havent played in forever.

guitar hero, what does the input device look like, and how does it compare to a real guitar? in other words, how would the original guitarist do playing his own song? or is it some sort of button pushing and remembering shit

Its a plastic electric guitar with 5 square buttons (green,red,yellow,blue,orange) you mash the buttons and play the "strum" key at the bottom to create music.

In answer to your question it is pretty much nothing like playing a real guitar

^^They would suck, because you don't move up and down the neck of the Guitar at all.

Most guitarists use muscle memory to play their songs, so it would get to the part they know, and they would slide down the neck off the fret buttons and mess up. I have seen this done on a few occasions(with people who play real guitar).

hmm that kinda sucks. seems like the varying levels of difficulty should come with varying input devices. computers are capable of all sorts of sound input detection. i figured it was more realistic since so many people play, and you never hear many musicians bitching about how unreal it is.

then again its just a game and i liked one where you ski and do flips and stuff, and i cant do that IRL. BUT the ski game wasnt touted as a skill thing

anyways maybe ill check it out sometime if i get a chance, but i dont know anyone with the video games

how do most people "strum" the guitar? i personally just use my thumb and index finger together like i'm holding a pick, but i've seen some people use an actual pick.
