So, my computer only has one Windows account and it doesn't have a password. How do I get it to boot up without me having to click on the account to log in? It used to do this by default but since I re-formatted a couple weeks ago, it hasn't done this. 9/25/2007 10:25:31 PM |

just providing an alternative that's more secure:
easiest thing to do is download tweakUI and enable auto-login WITH a password http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
you do not want to have an account without a password unless you're asking for trouble
google can help find something but it may not be the best solution... but if you want you can still use TweakUI to auto-login without a password too, it's just a security risk

Actually as it turns out non-complex passwords make windows more vulnerable to remote attack than no password. Accounts with no password can only log on locally. Anything involving a remote login (network shares/rdp/rpc/etc...) wont let you login with an account with no password (like the default guest account).
Whereas if you used a simple password (like "password") it would be easy for an attacker to guess and gain access.
TweakUI enables windows autologin by setting some registry edits for you which you can find in more detail here. Either use tweakUI or set the registry manually and either use a complex password or dont use one at all. 9/26/2007 2:43:45 PM |
