So, I just had a crazy 45 minutes! I ran out of gas not even 4 miles from my house. No one stopped so I called my Mom, no luck, she was in High Point. Daddy wasn't home and he don't have a cell phone. So, I called my neighbor, he finally answered and said he would come help me. Then, suddenly, 2 trucks stop. One guy insisted on staying with me, the other guy said he would go get some gas and come back and who ever got there first would help (he or my neighbor).

So, the guy from the road got to the gas station in Climax and back before my neighbor could get here! It was probably 15 mins or so. So, I couldn't wait on the side of the road for my neighbor when I had gas and needed to go get more... so I left. My neighbor didn't write down my cell number I called from, he didn't give me one... I didn't go back to where he was supposed to find me.. I just came on home thinking he would be here soon.

So, he calls my Mom wondering where the heck I am, saying he drove around for an hour looking for me and was worried and didn't know what had happened. Instead of just going home (not even 4 miles) and getting my number and calling me back. Or calling my Mom and getting my number sooner! I know he didn't drive around for an hour... it barely has been an hour since I called him.

I do feel bad though because he has had pneumonia for a few weeks now, and I know it took a lot out hom to try to help me. But I didn't really think anyone in this day and time would stop to help me. (Though I am a girl.)

Also, the guy that bought a can and some gas refused to take my $3 I had with me. Which I felt bad for, but he inststed that I owed him nothing. He was a nice guy, had been a police officer for a while and now in the military coming home from Bragg when he saw me.
I don't know his name, but I hope someone helps him sometime when he needs help!

was there a malfunction in the gauge that tells you how much gas you have left? or did your odometer stop working?

unless my gas gauge is broken, or I'm poor.....

I hereby give any good samaritan permission to shoot me in the foot if I ever run out of gas....

Well, that is pertinent info!

The very day I bought my truck, I ran out of gas on 40... which was when I learned that the gage didn't work. So, it has always given me about a 30 mile warning when I get close. So, I started writing it down in my mind how far I was going before the light started coming on... It was about 290-300, so I always started making sure to not go more than 280 without gas, and only if I had no choice (meaning that I don't ever go that far unless I have no choice).
So, this time, I had like 263 when the light came on.I was 4 miles from the house, making me think I could make it to Climax just fine. Not even 30 SECONDS LATER, THE TRUCK CUTS OFF! So it gave me no warning this time. This is the first time it has not given me enough warning.
I've ran it out of gas before, but it was because i was pushing it. Completely my fault those times. But this time, I blame the truck.

BTW, when it cut off, I was coasting as far as i could, trying to make it past the guardrail I was beside so I could get a safe distance off the road. I couldn't make it, so I just about got over when I saw a groundhog eating grass. So I coasted past him and got ahead of him. While I was making calls, I was watchin him eat and watch cars. It was cute. It was the second one I had seen today on the way home.

Ok, SRSLY, I think I'm gonna go edit all the town names to something normal... like Liberty (which is close by).

Whatev. I didn't think I needed any when I was getting on 421 in Siler City off 64. Blame me if you want to. It was the trucks fault. I am faultless here. (jk) But I did think I had about 30 miles to spare.)

And the good samaritan who gave me no name is amazing!

well, Bethaleigh, I'm sure you actually need a truck. I hate the people that have trucks and SUVs in the suburbs. In my opinion, you need a truck on a farm, and a SUV if you don't even have a road to drive on.

^^^^ Ordinarily, I do have a can or some gas in it. But I have been carrying around my dress for a wedding that is coming up so I can have it with me in case I decide to stop somewhere to get some shoes to match the colors... so I don't want my dress smelling like gas.

^^^Had I known before I handed the man my thousands, I would have at least made him fix it first, and lastly, the price knocked down some over it. I even paid a mechanic to look it all over and check the whole thing out for me. The only way to know that a gas gage don't work is to run it out of gas, or take the tank off, empty it, and see how much is in there. And I bet you don't do that when you buy a vehicle. This has no reflection on my abilities to pick a good vehicle. And yes, this is a good vehicle.

^^ bwahahahaha BEST POST IN HERE!!!

^ Well, I don't live in the back woods with no road to get me home if thats what you mean! I don't use the 4-wheel drive everyday. But, it will be nice to have in case I ever need it. And I do go places where it could come in handy. Its not a mud-slingin' truck either though. But, I do all kinds of outside stuff where I may need to get out of a mud hole, haul something for someone, or a place to put a deer.

I wasn't trying to be mean. I'm saying out where you need a truck, which is why you got rid of your other car, right?

^^ Oh I know, see the edit. I had the arrows messed up. You posted before I saw whatyou said.
The Cavalier was just too small for all my crap, it was time for an upgrade to something I could use if I wanted to. Like last year, my Daddy's truck was getting fixed during hunting season, and all we had to take was my car... its a good thing we didn't get a deer, because I don't know how well it would have fit in the trunk of a 2 door car!

So why exactly couldn't you wait for your neighbor who was nice enough to come help you despite his pneumonia? With a gallon of gas you could idle for a long ass time, or just turn the truck off and wait.

pttyndal: No one will ever have me pegged!

wwwebsurfer: I went to Grays Chapel from Kindergarten till 7th grade, then went to NERMS for 8th grade... and you are my age... do we know one another?

ScHpEnXeL: I appreciate it! The whole time I was brainstorming who I knew close-by... but everyone has moved away or are in college too!

^^ I didn't know if he couldn't make it out of the house, the guys from the side of the road were going to follow me and I would have been holding them up. I mean, I know I should have waited or something... I'm not ungrateful for his help, at all!

^ What's wrong with that?

Every chevy that I have owned has had a shitty gas guage. I just spent 700 bucks fixing the guage and fuel pump on my pickup.
