^^thanks, i happened to have googled and found that same exact article. it does not say really why men wear. it also states that men are often depicted wearing them but not WHERE the term originally came from.

is this a question about wifebeaters specifically or undershirts in general. it seems pretty obvious why a person wears an undershirt. a)prevents sweat from reaching your outer shirt b)if you get your outer shirt dirty, still have an extra underneath c)a little extra warmth in winter d)comfort, etc.

The reason I'm asking was that I asked a guy why he wore a wifebeater when he had on a wifebeater, a white tshirt/undershirt, and a polo and he said he had no idea but the wifebeater made him look muscular. I thought that was a strange reason. But I get the undershirt concept. So where does the term come from and what does cops have to do with it?

they are under shirts... after a hard long day at work. a man takes off his uniform or what he wore to work that dayhe still has his undershirt on with some pluming stains and sweat stains all over it.
on then does a bitch give him some lip about whats for dinner becase every day he comes home and asks about it at 6 oclock. they have an arguement about dinner and she sys take a hike and go get it your self asshole.
that puts him over the edge as he lifts a hand and starts beating up her face. at this piont in time one of the kids has called the cops cause they are scared of daddy. before you know it the cops come.
well after both parents talking to the cops he doesnt go to jail because she says that earlier she was in the garden and had steped on the rake and the handle came up and hit her in the face.
the cops leave and he proceeds to smack a hoe once more.

(wifebeater)-a uniform to beat ones spouse and have it be okay
