so far it has been pretty active in technical terms, but not very many named storms have made landfall 10/1/2007 10:19:20 AM

I remember in 2005 they had to start using Alpha, Beta, etc. to name storms.

We are talking about predictions here.
2005 was nuts. And the meteorologists didn't see it coming.
Of course, after 2005 every meteorologist and their mother predicted 2006 would have lots of hurricanes. As it turned out, 2006 was a very mild hurricane year. Then they blame their fuck-up on a salty La Nina or some bullshit, and claim that 2007 is gonna be CRAAAZY with hurricanes. Of course they are wrong again, and they'll have to think up a new excuse this year.
These guys just pull their predictions out of their ass. 10/1/2007 4:53:42 PM

The season hasn't been that inactive, it just hasn't had much of an impact on the U.S.
We're already had storm 'M', 'N' looks like it may form over the next couple days, and given that we're in a La Nina pattern we should have a relatively active October and November. It's not often you get to 'T' in a year, and we could easily get there.
We've also broken several records for fastest developing storms, and its been the only season with two hurricanes making landfall as Cat-5.
2005 does make it look like crap though, it's true. 10/1/2007 6:37:09 PM

you'd think the current "below average rainfall" would be the new average by now

Squalls out on the gulfstream Big storm's coming soon Passed out in my hammock God I slept till way past noon Stood up and tried to focus I Hoped I wouldn't have to look far Knew I could use a bloody mary So I stumbled next door to the bar
And now I must confess I could use some rest I can't run at this pace very long Yes it's quite insane I think it hurts my brain But it cleans me out And then I can go on
There's something about this Sunday It's a most peculiar gray Strolling down the avenue that's known as A1A Feeling tired, I nearly got inspired I knew that it wouldn't last long So all alone I walked back home Sat on the beach and then I made up this song
And now I must confess I could use some rest I can't run at this pace very long Yes it's quite insane I think it hurts my brain But it cleans me out And then I can go on
Well the wind is blowing harder now Fifty knots or thereabouts There's white caps on the ocean And I'm watching for water spouts It's time to close the shutters It's time to go inside In a week I'll be in gay Paris And that's a mighty long airplane ride
And now I must confess I could use some rest I can't run at this pace very long Yes it's quite insane I think it hurts my brain But it cleans me out And then I can go on 10/1/2007 7:14:33 PM

Yeah, and you'd think that the "87 degrees is the normal for this time of year" that I always hear them say in mid-August would eventually scale up. 10/16/2007 7:10:11 AM

I think the averages are the 30-year normals from NCDC, so the temperature and rain is compared with 1971-2000 temperature and rain. 10/16/2007 9:49:08 AM

i actually wouldn't mind a couple days off work w/ the power out and grilling for every meal.
kinda like camping w/o having to set up a tent or sleep on the ground.
i've got a stockpile of "hurricane food" already, let's go.
