Well I went

It was fun, except my SLR stopped working, so had to rely on a Canon A540 for many shots today.

OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS GREAT

I did the go karts for Free, part of admission, short wait (was there right at 8:30)

Watched all the racing, drifting, and so on.

Could do time attack if I had a car do to it with.

SO much going on, stunt bikes too. Overall one of the best uses of $25 I can think of, and a short drive. Virtually 12 hours of stuff to do.

I have pictures uploaded as always; will ad more

THE GUY WITH THE 'COP' DRIFT CAR DESTROYED THE BARRIER, ACTUALLY HIT HARD ENOUGH TO MOVE THE CONCRETE BARRIER!!!

I would have gone and covered the event, but I had some club shoots that I already had planned. Looked like a fun event.

i don't totally agree, the drivers but a few were not that great, and our vantage point was terrible too.

Why are there never any drift events in NC?

VIR is pretty much NC. no more than 1.5 hours away.

the closest drift event in NC would most likely be at lowes motor speedway. there have been a few there.

yesterday was only the second time I have ever gone, its basically the nearest track to here; Just about equal distance to Rockingham but no waiting to get in. Everybody who works at VIR that I've run into/spoken to are pretty cool and are there because they like racing; not because they are simpletons needing to make a paycheck at the area's only venue (like NASCAR events or any other sporting event)

You can get pretty close to stuff and drive around to other areas of the track in like 4 minutes, not too crowded, and I mean a LOT of the pictures I took were with a 6mp 4X zoom Canon point and shoot, as my Rebel died on me!! So much to do at KONI; other events sound like they could be fun. For sure I'm trying to go to every spectator event in 2008, at Least GrandAm Rolex and KONI again.

I did take a few vids of drifting, there were about 4 cars that were GOOD and had speed, tire smoke, and were all over the place without going off. The mustang that won the competition was bad as hell, came through so quick we thought he would lose it, but kept it together, tons of tire smoke too. Drifting was difficult to photograph from where we could stand to see it, especially at the time of the day of the 'main event'-- the sun was in front of my face! BUT the other side of the Patriot course connects to the main course, so you can't go over there, and it slopes downhill.

The Karts were fun, more power than I expected.

AS far as VIR being part of NC, look around at any area were cars are parked, majority have North Carolina license plates!

ha just about. They will probably have to reconsider having the drifting event/ who will be eligible to participate in the event after 2 cars took it out

I will get a group together for next year, I decided to go a week before the event.

I plan on going to every single spectator event at VIR in 2008, including the bikes, which I personally don't really care about, but for photography would indeed kick ass
