nothing cool happening.. same ole same ole...

and yes if it's just a gas line leak with no fire then you don't put water on it... but if it's on fire you do, protecting exposures, cooling the thermal column (minimizing radiant heat damage), etc.

they've got 2 or 3 un-manned monitors on it now, they were protecting the saddle tanks on the drilling trucks on initial arrival.

PSNC is having to dig up the road and locate the line on either side in order to isolate the leak and shut off the line, it's an 8" steel line, so it'll be a while.

They are putting in new traffic signal lights at that intersection, probably what the drilling was for.

There was a 4" line cut yesterday on the other side of Kildaire Farm off of Tryon where they are widening Tryon.

Yeah for gas leaks....

Wow, it's still going???

I was one of the first people diverted around it around 11:30 this morning. I was about 10 car lengths away from it on Kildaire Farm Road just as the initial responders got there and began to control traffic. The fire in person was unbelievable because those flames just shot straight up that pole into the air and the water didn't seem to be doing too much to it. People were coming out of their offices to stand on the sidewalk to see the fire and people were leaning out of their cars with their camera phones trying to take pictures.
