That's cute, considering there is no way in hell there even would have been a playoffs this year without him.
Next year, the reign of making playoffs is over... Someone tell Hank he isn't his Dad and no one respects him. You have to EARN the right to pop off and criticize everything about everyone... and he hasn't. 10/29/2007 1:31:57 PM |

Yes that is true....they wouldn't have gotten there without him, but having said that just getting there isn't good enough. If you get there and don't do squat and are out in the first round what is the point....The point is winning the whole damm thing !! May-Rod has proved he can't step up in the playoffs....so good riddens !! 10/29/2007 2:57:57 PM |

*edit* I know lowell is good...i'm not trashing him as a player, hes the world series mvp for christ sake. I'm just saying that if this were to happen i think it would end up like the johnny damon saga. Thats all

Oh, come on. Half of my Mets threads every year are fucktards trolling. When your team has a high payroll and wins a lot (well, in the Yankees case at least), people hate...
That said, Yankees fans were so cocky about how A-Rod could never leave the Yankees and that he would break the HR record, retire a Yankee and go into the HOF a Yankee. Well, now that he is all but gone, everyone acts like they never wanted him in the first place. Jilted lover syndrome.
If you seriously go into '08 with a rotation including Hughes, Joba and Kennedy you are going to need to sign some SERIOUS lumber to replace A-Rod. That pitching staff WILL be inconsistent and WILL need a ton of runs to survive into October...
Lowell will be available but I'd be shocked if he didn't re-sign with Boston. Miguel Cabrera will be available via trade but he will take at least 2 of your young 3 pitchers (or maybe one and a lower level guy with upside like Betance) and Melky. The best scenario is probably having the Cubs sign A-Rod and then get Aramis Ramirez in a trade. He likely wouldn't be AS expensive as Miggy...

Me and most of my friends didn't doubt for a second that money hungry no play off hittin MF'r would leave the first chance he got. Reason....he was more afraid of not being liked in NY so step up when they needed him....and lay it all on the line. Fuck A-rod.......As far as Yankee haters goes, bring it on....it only makes most Yankee fans love their team more. What is the point of being a fan of a certain team if you can't have teams you like and don't like....wouldn't that be boring !!
Joe G is going to do a great job. I think he will leave the veterans alone, and work with the young guys which is what made him so successful in Fla. 11/1/2007 8:06:58 PM |

^^ eh. you assesment of Yankee fans and a-rod is too shallow man. for me and most of my closer friends, it was always a love hate relationship. we hate the fact we signed the most pre-madonna too highly paid player in all of baseball. yet we have to love the numbers he puts up every regular season.
its not being "scorned" as you put it.
its almost more like buyers remorse but with closure? something like that.
And your Met threads aren't half as bad as any Yankee thread. C'mon no one cares about the Mets that much.
But '08's rotation is going to be rough if Girardi plans on putting all those mentioned pitchers in as starters. having them all throw 170+ innings is not going to be wise and may blow them out.
As for bats, I don't think we've even begun to see what we need in a lineup. 3rd is open and OF positions may too. Not to mention what to do at 1B.
I'm excited for change tho. Its always fun (unless its the 1980s) 11/1/2007 11:03:04 PM |

Yeah but that doesn't mean he's gone.
He's repeatedly said it's either the Yankees or retirement. He just said he needed more time to decide, and he had to make the decision on his option by tomorrow, I believe.
His agent said if Pettitte decides to play this year, he's confident he could get a deal worked out with the Yankees within 24 hours. 11/6/2007 1:48:15 PM |

So... before ANY actual improvements to the team, your payroll has eclipsed the $225M mark. If Pettitte is re-signed, that would push it towards $240M.
Solid 4 year deal to a 36 year old Catcher by the way... Hey, at least since you keep choking in the playoffs, the highest payrol to ever win the World Series still belongs to the Red Sox... so that's a plus. Can't say the Yankees "buy championships." 11/21/2007 11:55:48 AM |

I think giving away those guys for Santana would be a no brainer. However now we're looking down the gun of a potentially great Tigers team in the Central and the Red Sox may just be one day closer to winning every series from here till 2012.
However I will love to now rub in Red Sox fan's face how they are the Yankees, and their little shitty "we da underdogs" mentality is now just $ making bullshit.
How hilarious would it be to have people pull for the Yankees in a few years to stop the Red Sox? Sweet irony. 12/5/2007 10:16:31 AM |

^ you are an idiot. Im a yankee fan but The red Sox have way over valued Ellsbury. In the minors last year he had 463 ABs he had only 2 HRs, 24 2Bs and 7 3Bs. He is a future leadoff hitter but he is already 24. I mean with his speed he doesnt stretch much. To get Santana you guys should give up ellsbury. He had a good october but overall his numbers are not that impressive.
Also He signed on with Boras today. 12/5/2007 11:24:47 AM |
roguewolf All American 9069 Posts user info edit post |
^^ really? Santana will do much more for the team than Jacoby I think. In terms of wins and a pitching lineup, cmon!
And which World Series Champions have the highest payroll?
The Yankees needed to pull the trigger on that trade, unless we are thinking long term rebuild with Kennedy, Hughes, and Chamberlin (as a starter). And thats years down the road some.

Well for once the Yankees have some Young talent that is ready to make a splash in the bigs....AND I hate the fact that these athletes are making soooooo much money. We have Pettitte now and with the young guns we have and A-Rod I think we can stay competitive. Santana comes at too high a cost in my opinion.... 12/5/2007 12:48:35 PM |
