I endorse the ideas of a Smithfield's inside the beltline, and a Chick-Fil-A near campus that's not *on* campus. As if the odd hours of the on-campus one weren't bad enough, they don't serve the chicken salad sandwiches or the cool wraps...wtf...

In response to the griping about chain restaurants, well that's really about all that is applicable here. Granted, while it might be nice to import your favorite local/mom & pop restaurant from your hometown into Raleigh, realistically that will almost never work. A fantastic restaurant, taken out of context, may not work out nearly as well. Small local chains, on the other hand, that aren't big enough to have gotten shitty but are big enough to expand outside their original area, now that's where the potential lies...

Like Ham's. I grew up in Greensboro, where there are three Ham's, including the original. I'd freaking love to have one in Raleigh...the closest one at the moment is the one on Franklin Street. A Ham's would have been a MUCH better tenant for the old Darryl's building that RH&B will be, at least in my opinion.

Ham's would be awesome, just for nostalgia's sake. That was my high school's version of The Max.

Just checked the web site and evidently there are 26 Ham's locations...a few more than I thought (I would have guessed there were 10 or so) but still a good place to get a sandwich. It does mention that they're franchising now though...hmmm. I'd have to see if they still have the character of the earlier locations or if it's been watered down... The ones I"m used to are the Friendly Ave. one in Greensboro, which is the original one, and the one in Brassfield that's been there since that shopping center was built in the late 80's.

when they open a Chick-Fil-A, the first 50 people get free food for a year (365 combo meal coupons)

my buddy is second-in-command of the Chick-Fil-A on High House, and he said there were people outside at like 2 A.M. the night before they opened

Jack in the Box is the only one on that list I'd like to have in Raleigh

As mentioned by others Raleigh used to have several Shoney's locations. As bad as that chain as become, I'm glad we don't have them. (and if you want a breakfast bar, Golden Corral >>>>>Shoney's)

I hope Smithfield's pork'n guys goes bankrupt.

Piccadilly was at Crabtree once upon a time.

White Castle definitely... of course, most cities in NC need one.

As for something that's more likely to happen: Throw some (Captain) D's on that bitch.

i dont see what is so good about white castle.

i stopped at one a few weeks ago in Queens and the burgers werent gross, but they werent very good either. and the fries i swear were the ore-ida (sp?) store bought kind.

someone enlighten me as to what the attraction is other than the fact a movie was made about this place?

I second that Captain Deez (long john silvers would work too) and the in-N-out burger

but there used to be a ton of shoneys and there used to be 2 picadillys here too.

I wish we had a blue water grill here. http://www.brguestrestaurants.com/restaurants/blue_water_grill_chicago/about.php some of the best shushi OMG

a place that served good crawfish and catfish would be awsome too
